S21 S21+ S21 Ultra hands-on reviews

Re: S21/+/Ultra hands-on reviews

Oh good I'm off today will watch these videos here in a bit.

Re: S21/+/Ultra hands-on reviews

skin tones seem to be better this year but sounds like the issue still exists

Re: S21/+/Ultra hands-on reviews

Any samples? Seems to me Samsung has made progress here, but would love to see this.

At 4:22 the reviewer mentions the skin smoothing.

It's frustrating that these reviews spend did much you focusing on the zoom capabilities. Does everyone go around zooming in on buildings and trees? I'd be surprised if I had more than 10 photos in my whole Google photos library where I used zoom. I get it that Samsung makes a big deal out of their zoomimg telephoto lenses, but I have to believe most people take more pictures of their family, friends, pets, kids etc. Video looks promising though, and will probably stomp the pixel.

The more reviews i watch, I'm actually considering getting the plus instead of the ultra model. I don't care about zoom capabilities, and i actually prefer the flat screen. The resolution really doesn't make a difference to me since I'm not watching much content that's over 1080p anyways.

Camera comparison between iPhone Pro Max and S21 Ultra:

I mean, I think they're effectively both equally good, but I give the S21 the edge due to the better blacks.

All in all, it looks like Samsung's camera is, at the very least, up to par with Apple and Google's still photography.

Feeling like this is a good year to leave the Pixel...

I had them pegged from the start. Very cool comparison BTW. I do like the 'left' imaging better. But they should have done more than just a snow scene. But in these clips the 'blue-ish' snow and lesser detail vs. the other phone was key determinate IMO.

WOW!

After my experiences with the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra's camera, which in spite of loads of updates, still turned out to be a real, "dogs breakfast", it would appear that Samsung have learnt from their mistakes and reinforces my decision to upgrade.

Ah, thanks. Yea, the skin smoothing still looks a little odd to me. I noticed he showed what looked like selfie angles. Apparently, with the selfie, you can choose "natural" or "brighter" when you first use it. I will surely be opting for the natural option. Based on reviews, "natural" gives you less of that smoothing.

100% agree with you about too much focus on the zoom!

I'm happy with my choice on the S21+. I just didn't feel the upgrades of the Ultra justified the extra $200 bucks for, as you said, features I probably won't really use.

It's a shame S21 and S21+ reviews aren't being released at the same time as the Ultra reviews...

Yeah, it was a fun format, but definitely could have used more samples.

It's funny that the Pixel 5 isn't even really in contention in any of these comparison videos. It's always the iPhone vs Samsung.

I think still photography has definitely kicked up a notch from Samsung. Based on samples I've seen, here and there, the Pixel or the iPhone take it, but the fact that sometimes the S21 takes it, means it's more or less on par. Once you factor in the rest of the camera experience, like video and some extra features, the S21 should be the better overall photography experience than the Pixel 5.

I despise my s20 ultra camera. That's my main reason for upgrading.

The fact that I get over $1000 in savings on the new ultra sweetened the pot ($700 trade in plus $250 credit plus $50 Rakuten)

Re: S21/+/Ultra hands-on reviews

I'm hoping that the S21 Ultra camera is better. I've had the S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra and I've been left a little unsatisfied.

I just made my decision on the Ultra this morning. And now all these reviews are mostly talking about the zoom. Which is amazing in its own right but I don't zoom in on most pictures i take. It would have been nice to have but besides that im not gonna get a S pen. UWB is still starting, same thing with Wifi6E. It doesn't seem good for my wallet.

But I will say that the battery life test on the Ultra so far from what everyone is saying is better than most phones that have come out state side with high end specs.

I wanna hear more reviews of the Plus model. All i see is the Reg S21 or the Ultra out there today.

Same, I really want to see more S21+ specific reviews... :T

Most of my photos aren't heavily zoomed, but the capability is still important to me. A strong optical zoom is often vital for photographing scenery, especially when traveling. It can also be helpful for seeing details (e.g. reading signs) at a distance--kind of like binoculars, but with the extra ability to make a record of what's seen. It's not always physically possible to move ten times closer to what you're photographing, so it's great to be able to get the same effect via zoom.

10x and 30x zoom both are really impressive on the Ultra, providing really clear and crisp images. Amazing the quality and sharpness it can still maintain. Much better than the competition in comparison videos.

100x is neat, but the results aren't quite as impressive. It's still an amazing feature to have just in case, but ultimately, feels a little gimmicky. 10x and 30x is where it's at!

I haven't used my SLR in forever but the 100X zoom lens on that is quite big. I can see using it on the Ultra just to see faraway places but it probably can never be a serious photographer's option in a phone. At least not anytime soon.

I'm going to the Ultra coming from a Moto Z4 so I'm super excited about the cameras. Most of my serious photography is my DSLR but especially being home for the pandemic, I take loads of pictures with my Moto, even though I have the Hasselblad Mod, and it just isn't up to the task.
