S22 pictures..show us what you got!

I think I got Hercules but I'm not 100%. Best I could tell from.using Stellarium on another phone, I did. May have to click on the image as it is blowing it up way bigger and distorting it from how it appears in my phone gallery.

And a little birdie on my fence

Someone pointed out to me not only did I get the Milky way, but I got Scorpius and part of Sagittarius as well. They saw my pic in a FB post and made the edits to point it out. Really neat.

Unfortunately though I'm not sure if I knocked my focus off or damaged my phone, but after a 7 foot drop onto the ground from my porch railing onto grass, it won't focus in pro mode now :( still cool to get some good shots before that though. Used a screenshot from the Stellarium app to show where Scorpius is positioned relative to my location.
How are you setting up your camera for those astro shots Shellcracker? I'd love to be able to do those myself

I had tried to use a tripod but the one I got has limited swivel and won't angle like I wanted it to, so I had to go the old fashion way- set my phone up against a non-reflective box on the ground and set shutter speed to 30 seconds and use voice command to snap the shot. Set a 10 second delay to allow for the phone to stabilize in case of any kind of shakes. Been running aperture of F1.8 ISO between 800-3200, auto white balance, and manual focus. But I'm finding it tough to replicate my first results, particularly with the milky way. Everything has been gradually worse since then.

But they say it is best to do it during a new moon , and those best shots were during a new moon. Now it's almost 60% illumination and I'm wondering if that may be throwing my images off.

In the meantime I have captured a few decent shots of stars with just nightmode and my bare hands at 1x and 3x zoom. Last night I noticed my phone wasn't applying the auto filter like it was, so I had to go in editing in the picture and apply the auto filter myself. Weird.

But yeah, since that first night it's been a challenge. One thing that would help would be to go somewhere with absolutely NO light pollution-- no city lights, no street lights or anything. But there is one street light on across the street right where I have to be aiming for the milky way, and I suspect that too is knocking my last few MW attempts off, and I've been getting washout from my own streetlight reflecting off my camera and into the shots. Its been a real struggle.

Thanks Shellcracker, I've got loads of light pollution where I live in London but I might still be able to get a couple of decent star shots

I think you will, especially if you use nightmode for it. Hold as steady as you can and shoot. If need be you can make post edits to make the stars pops. This camera system is capable of fabulous results.

With regards my previous post.

Wow I should have spent some time reading just what this phone camera is capable of. Spent an hour reading and playing with settings and am blown away by the bokeh effects.

This photo of 2 friends kids is an example. The original has no blur around them.

This shot makes me dizzy.

I think there may have been some unmentioned camera improvements in the latest update. It's quite cloudy and the phone still managed to get respectable moonshots given the conditions, and night mode did a surprisingly good job with the clouds. Some of the lower clouds are contaminated with noise but the rest is actually quite solid.

I believe there is an unmentioned camera performance bump because before with the same conditions the moon would have been a totally undetailed blob and washed out by the light reflecting off the clouds. And I noticed even at 20x zoom, night mode was still in effect, though I did not do a snap there.

That is REALLY good detail for that level of zoom. Was this on an Ultra, or is it possible to do that with the base 22/+? My base S22 does good on large objects and the moon at 30x. But anything like that comes out severely digitized and overprocessed.
That's on my ultra, I think the 10x and 30x shots it takes are phenomenal for a phone

Very dramatic evening sky ;)

This is more of a functionality test than anything. I had 7 foot drop the other day off my porch and have been worried about focus being permanently harmed.

Looks like 30x still works well.
