S22 plus unlocked

Hey everyone. I want to buy my mother a new phone for her birthday and thinking of the S22 plus because I can get it on sale in the unlocked version for cheaper. Also I can not buy her a new phone locked to Verizon because I am not on my mothers account. I have never bought an unlocked phone before so how easy is it to activate a new 5g sim card and to activate the new unlocked phone on my mothers account. I live 1200 miles away from her and want to show up on her birthday and give her a new phone. Her old phone is a pixel 2xl so she is in dire need for a new phone. I'll have to all the activating and setting up for her as she is not very tech savvy. I would like some help and tips from those who have activated unlocked phone with Verizon before.

I actually just did this myself, bought the S22+, paid in full from Verizon. All I had to do was put the Sim in and it automatically activated. In my previous experience with T-Mobile and buying unlocked direct from Samsung, the experience was the same.

I upgraded from a Verizon branded S10+ to an unlocked S22 Ultra I bought from Samsung and just put the SIM from the S10+ in the S22 Ultra. I didn't have to contact Verizon or get a new SIM to get 5G. You can see I've got 5G now.

I thought about just putting in my moms sim card from her pixel 2 xl but its only 4g, and the phone is 5g. I am not sure if she will have problems into the future when I can't be there to help her with it, if it came to that.

I'm still using the Verizon Sim from my Note 9, I got 5G UW on my Note 20 Ultra, and now on my S22 Ultra. You don't need a special SIM for 5G on Verizon. Anybody that tells you different is just trying to make a buck off of you,

Verizon gives free sims. Just request a 5G sim. I bought my mom an iPhone 12 for mothers day last year. Just popped in sim from old LG G7. That's the beauty of unlocked phones.

Thank you so much for this information. It really helps a lot. I am going to try the sim from her old phone 1st. If for some reason it don't work then I'll try a new 5g sim card.

Another option is just activating the esim on the s22, then you don't have to worry about a sim card.
