The official specs say the front camera is 10mp but a video reviewer says the default selfie view produces 6.5mp photos. How is this possible? Is he correct?

By not using the full sensor on the selfie camera by default. That's how they can add a wide selfie mode.

Ohhh ok. I didn't know it had a wide mode. I would just be worried that a 6.5mp image is going to be crappy quality. Does the Ultra model have the same thing with its 40mp front camera?

Yup, it does. And remember, it's not that the image quality will suffer if it uses just part of the sensor... you're getting the exact same quality, but a shorter image (unless you use the 'wide' mode or full sensor). Also, they have modes with higher compression on the image size (because who truly wants/needs 40MP bathroom selfies). You can see the 'FULL' moniker on the image settings to note which one is using the full-blown sensor and size. Just, again, remember, 40MP shots ADD UP QUICKLY in your storage.

The big images do add up. That's why I hate that they took away the microSD card. Is there any sort of mini USB storage that can plug into the phone to transfer files to? I'm thinking like a thumb drive but with the proper connector for the phone.

It's higher resolution than social media allows and that's typically what someone would use a selfie for.

Any USB-C thumb drive would work (as well as compatible USB-C hubs where you can connect an external card/USB device). And, of course, cloud storage.
