You didn't say if these were going to Ultra, Plus or standard models you're looking at but I see you have the Plus model S20.

Anyway with the S23 Plus and Ultra you still get MST, magnetic strip transfer, where you can use touchless payment in more places. The S23 series is only slated to get 4 OS updates and 5 years of security updates but your S20 is only 4 years old so if that's your average you'll be real close with a 23 model. You'd be one OS out in 2028 but your security would be fully up to date until then.

The advantages with the S24 series would be the upgraded screen material. You mentioned some nicks and scratches on your current device. I have the Ultra and it has the best glass I've ever had on any device. It's different than what comes on the Plus but either would be a huge upgrade. As far as the Gorilla Armor on the Ultra, I have zero scratches, and even though I can visibly see that the Oleophobic coating has worn off in my keyboard area, it remains finger glide smooth unlike the other screens I had. If the Victus 2 of the Plus is similar...

You don't really say what you're looking for in a new device but there are tons of review videos on YouTube where they compare the S23 series to the S24 series, Plus to Plus, Plus to Ultra, Ultra to Ultra and S series to just about any other device on the market. There is also this active thread where users are talking about holding on to their S23 devices and forgoing future upgrades. You can see that thread here.

well i prob stick with plus i don't think want an ultra i think when i got s20 plus from walmart though verizon contact going from s7 it always have screen protector on it

i think i will still be using a speigan case does i assumed a screen protector is prob on s23 or s24 like s21 plus was eh

i think s24 has the ai part in it s23 doesn't? i don't know i just hate running old phone android 13 ya know i was looking at memory on phone yesterday it was down to 3.9 i had to reboot phone to get memory go up to 5.8,5.6 usually it will go 4.2, 4.5,4.8 if not using it granted i have instagram folder internal folder which is screwed up not showing new pics when upload from app despite i got alot of pics plus fact that back in oct i went to from samsung message to google message after download app

right now memory is 4.9 i forgot to say that there is a bubble in center can't really see it unless hold it to light besides fingerprints/dirt and stuff there are also scratches back of my case when drop few times in past i see

i can't actually removed samsung message because its pre install on phone only way to forced stop i can't even disable, i believe newer phones will have google messages install <-still not a fan but getting used to it at least when my parents get new iphones will have rcs on it still not sure why my sister in law and older niece haven't updated their iphones to 16 so i can see rcs only my older brother and youngest niece has it

i think that was 1 objective why i went s7 to s20 plus due to memory issues few years ago ,it be silly to try to do an a series just because it has an sd card slot eh

i could try a pixel phone but i don't know

weren't their rumors that s23 phones did have pink or green lines due to a software update or was that folks were on 21,22 i don't think it was s24 phones

They only did the preinstalled screen protectors for the one model and never again, so no there won't be any preinstalled screen protector on the 23 or 24 models.

They went back and added AI to the 23 line but it doesn't look like any older phones will be getting it.

The S23 shipped with Android 13 but is now on Android 14 but still seems to be waiting for One UI 6.1.

You should be able to get Google Messages on your Samsung but you are correct that you are not able to uninstall it on the S20. I believe you can on both the S23 and S24 but may not be able to uninstall Google Messages now, so they have kind of changed places.

I remember a lot of people not wanting to upgrade when they found out that Samsung was doing away with the SD. A lot of people seemed equally upset when they took away the headphone jack but everyone got over it and we've mostly all moved on, no harm no foul.

If you want to try another brand after having the same brand for a few phones and several years it may take some time to get used to the new device, its menu layout, its features and options.... This is where I would recommend watching some YouTube comparison videos. For Samsung's flagship lines there are comparison videos for just about anything under the sun. Just type in the 2 devices you want to see side by side and let YouTube do the rest.

Honestly the line thing sounds familiar but I don't remember what model was affected, when, or why. I've had the last 6 flagship devices in the Ultra version and never had any lines, but it could have been something that affected the Plus or standard versions, IDK. There is probably a YouTube video for that.

Both the S23 and S24 offer virtual memory where you can allocate some of your ROM to RAM, but honestly you probably won't need to. I'm kind of surprised you feel the need to with the S20 but restarting your device is healthy for it and you really should try to do it on a regular basis to keep your caches in check, and allow the phone to reboot once in a while.
