Thankyou so much for your reply.
So I can't plug it into a computer and use the Google account it was set up with, even though I know the log in details of the Google account the phone was set up with?

Welcome to AC!
If your log into your Samsung account on the device you can remotely unlock it with your Samsung credentials on Samsung website otherwise you can factory reset with recovery but you'll need your Google credentials to sign back into the device , these are all security measures to make sure someone not you trying to get into the device.

Correct. As stated above, Samsung's Find My Mobile does allow for remote unlock (if that option was enabled on the device when signed in), but it requires the phone to have an active connection. Google removed the option to do that a few years ago and now only allows for locating and locking/wiping the device remotely.

In any case, for security purposes, if no remote connection is available, the only way to unlock the device is to input the lockscreen credentials. If you have forgotten those, you can reset it using the Google account signed into the device, but this, too, requires an active data connection.

I was looking into this issue a little while ago -- is Find My Mobile still around, or did Samsung change it to SmartThings Find? I think the latter doesn't allow for remote unlocking any more ...

They still allow it on Samsung's, but you have to activate it on the phone first (not on by default when signing in).
