S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car

I can't wait to try this with my G5 and my 2014 Forester!!! Hopefully it will be the fix I've been looking for since I got the phone. My Note 3 would autoconnect, but I have NEVER been able to get the G5 to do it....fingers crossed!!!

I know this is long but it worked for me and now my phone and car automatically connect like a dream :D

I got my 2013 Subaru Outback last October and my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 in December. Before I got my S3, I didn't have a smartphone at all and it auto-connected and paired with my car no problem whenever I turned my engine on. Once I switched to my S3 though, I had to manually select my device every time I wanted to use it in my car. Needless to say, that was a pain in the ****. The person who originally helped me set up my old phone told me that when I got a new phone, I would need to delete my current device to setup my new phone. I did that several times by accessing bluetooth settings through the menu button on my audio dashboard but it never worked (turns out that I needed to access my bluetooth options through a different route). I got so frustrated that I gave up for a month thinking that there was just some setting that I was missing on my S3 or in my car. What I've only just realized is that I needed to delete all the stored information from my old phone, not just delete the device. I was supposed to reset all my bluetooth settings in my car which completely wiped out my old phone, phone book, everything. The way to access this (in my car at least but it's probably worth a shot in different vehicles) was to press "CD/AUX" until my bluetooth option was shown (BT-A). I then pressed the talk switch on my steering wheel and said "setup" (I found all of this in my car user manual). From there I was able to use the audio dial to scroll through the options until I hit the settings/initialize option (just go through all options until you find "initialize" or some other option that sounds like it will reset your bluetooth settings). When I selected this it asked me to confirm the deletion of my phone, phone books, etc. After this, I followed my cars instruction manual on pairing my S3 and it now connects automatically when I enter my car. It is soooooo much better!!

I hope this helps!!

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car[SOLVED]

SHORT ANSWER
Pair head unit with a different phone, then go back to your own phone

LONG ANSWER
I tried all the above to get my handset to connect, to no avail. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 which I had been successfully using with my Xtrons head unit for over a year.

Having updated the ROM, I couldn't get the handset to connect, and always had to unpair and then re-pair to the head unit every time I needed to use it - I commute almost 2hours each way, and I listen to podcasts on my journey - so this became a real PITA. I ended up trying about a dozen different ROMs - couldn't get the damn thing to connect after the initial pairing.

I knew that the Head unit wasn't faulty, and that the handset was capable of automatically connecting - and wrongly assumed it was a "feature" of the ROM(s). Eventually though, having tried everything in the above posts and much more besides, I needed to convince myself that the head unit was still working - so I paired my wife's Moto G to the head unit, just to make sure that it hadn't developed a fault. It was fine, and the phone auto-connected every time I started the car.

Unbelievably though - the very next time I got in the car (with a newly flashed ROM - which had never been paired with the head unit), the phone auto connected. It has been doing so ever since. I have not had a pairing request, but I did get a "phonebook" request, which I acknowledged.

I can only deduce then, that something in the head unit had had gone awry - and forcing another phone in there had cleared out whatever was blocking the phone from connecting.

Ian

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car[SOLVED]

I have a 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS. It does not have the Mylink (not available in 2010). I also have a Galaxy Note 4. My BT connects automatically every time for making and receiving calls but if I want to tether music from the phone I have to go into the menu, select my phone and connect it. EVERY TIME I start the car. Ive gotten used to it but it is annoying. Is there a way that I can just select Bluetooth and the galaxy will be ready to play? My buddys Tacoma connects instantly and starts playing music, he has a note 4 also. is this possible in my car? Id really like to not have to connect it every time I start my car. Also, if im tethering music, and I answer a call, when I hang up I have to reconnect it again. Again, super annoying. Any help would be great. Just found this forum and this is my first post so be kind ha ha

just wanted to chime in - 2013 outback here and had the same problem.

i suspect everyone who has this problem had a salesperson at the dealership show them how to setup the phone using their own phone, and it remembers that phone as the "primary phone" or something

Wow, KAYBABS, you made my day. I have a 2013 Outback with Samsung Galaxy S5 and the same problem. I had tried deleting the phone setup from the Subaru but that didn't help. It only worked after I did initialize as you described. Thanks a ton.
