S3 Fake?

So, today i met a guy who was selling me an unlocked Galaxy s3. It was pretty cheap, 300, and it looked great. What bothered me was that when i turned on the phone and started messing with it. It was kind of slow, so i checked the configuration to make sure it was really an S3. I saw the i9300 model number and the android version was 4.0.1, i was about to buy it. But that made me unsure of doing it. I denied the offer and now i am wondering if I just let a good deal go away.

An S3 should go for about $300 or so on average I believe.
