According to the press release here (which doesn't appear to be carrier specific) the S3 LTE will include a "One Number" feature:

"With the device’s One Number Service, the call recipient always sees the same phone number, whether the call is made from the Gear S3 or the user’s smartphone."

See the 4th bullet after the mainboard picture here.

The S2 Classic LTE didn't work this way, if I'm interpreting the statement correctly. On the S2, if you made a call directly from the watch, the recipient would see the phone # of the watch. If Samsung figured out how to do this, then I'm definitely all in.

The watch can support it; so did the Gear S2. The network has to support it and in the U.S. I believe AT&T's the only one that has it implemented. T-Mobile announced it almost a year ago but never implemented it.

Verizon supports one number also. You just have to request it

Just keep in mind that you have to have a compatible phone. AT&T sold phone. Nexus 6ps, Google pixels etc won't work with number sync

The VZW solution is a serious kluge. At least compared to AT&T's NumberSync implementation. It's more equivalent to AT&T's From another thread...

Directions

1.On your VZW smartphone, subscribe to Integrated Messaging Features by going into the messages+ app and settings. If its the first time you used this app, it may prompt you. Integrated Messaging should be included in your smartphone plan but please check just in case.
2.After that, go to your LG watch Urbane 2nd edition and go to the app drawer.
3.Check to see if Messages+ and "Calling Setup" is visible in your LG Watch app drawer. If not, you might need to go to the Android Wear app and resync your apps.
4.Press Calling Setup app. It should ask you a few things like it will check to see if your Smartphone is capable of Advanced calling . It might take a bit. Reboots of the LG watch might be necessary to speed things up.
5.Once it detects and confirms that Calling features are active, then it will ask to see if the E911 address is working. If it gives the address where you are, then it's working.
6.Hit next or Ok. (I forget)
7.Then you should be able to make phone calls from your smartphone number even if you are away and not connected to your VZW smartphone.
Note: Call forwarding if available on your phone is less of a battery hog so that might be a better option for you.

Incorrect -- I have a Google Pixel XL purchased from Verizon using it on AT&T (which does not have HD voice while using it on AT&T) and the S3 Frontier does number sync, meaning when I make a call from my watch it shows my phone's number when calling someone.

How does it do this? My wife has an unlocked Pixel and when I login to att.com.. go to the numbersync page, it doesn't show that phone at all. The only phone on the account that works is the S7.

To see the phone, you have to have a login to myatt unique to that number. Then, and only then, will that phone show up to enable numbersync.

I was in and out of the AT&T store within 30 minutes with numbersync working. The setup process was the easiest I've ever experienced. The rep had me download Samsung Gear app and during the setup process I was prompted to download a couple more apps that I don't recall and my Pixel and the Frontier were paired working within minutes. The rep had no clue if numbersync would work since he had never seen a Pixel, we tested it out while I was still in the store, both calling and texting and it worked perfectly.
When I returned home I powered down my phone and made a call using the watch and my phone's number showed up..

On the watch if you go to: settings/connections/AT&T NumberSync it will show you if it is on and the number it's using.

Thank you! I setup Numbersync during the installation of Gear on my phone and it seemed to work, however the S3 didn't show my mobile number under the settings. I initiated the configuration on the S3 and it generated a 6 digit code that I had to enter under my profile on the AT&T website. Now everything seems to be correct.

I just got mine at the AT&T and they set up the number sync for me. I'm really enjoying this watch.
