S3 or wait for S4?

To the OP, when you're eligible to upgrade, just buy whatever the best phone is out there at that time. Do keep in mind that often new phones are released right around Black Friday for the Christmas shopping season, and waiting a few weeks to see what's up with that probably wouldn't be a bad idea...but otherwise what folks are saying here is right -- you can literally play the waiting game forever, because it seems there's always *something* rumored to be coming out in the near future, but might as well just buy now and be happy.

Just buy the Nexus 4. Cheap and as good or better specs as the sgs3 but without the bloatware and well its a nexus for half the price.

For most of us that are on Verizon and/or want LTE, the N4 simply isn't as good an option as the S3.

Minus LTE, at least for now, and perhaps storage the Nexus 4 stomps the GS3 and will very likely match the specs of the S4 and other phones released later in 2013. Oh, and it's a Nexus...

Saw your post regarding Verizon, removable battery and sd card. GS3 all the way for you then, sir. Although, I'd still prefer a proper working (key word) LTE gnex for the dev community. Still can't beat the Gnex in that regard. Not even close. I'll be picking up a cheap GS3 for my better half. Like you, she's still on a dumb phone and will be more than happy on GS3 for many months to come.

Thanks, and although I have a dumb phone, I'm not of the dumb phone variety... ;)
I will be getting 2 S3s then, one for me and one for my mom. She, on the other hand, has never used any smart device, so I'll have to teach her.

Thanks everybody for your help! I decided that the Note2 is way to huge, so I'll be going for the GS3! :)

I talked my mom into the s3, she's 76 yrs old and loves it......just be prepared to give a step by step tutorial every time you see her or talk to her :) it's been fun.....

I've done some random Internet research and it's believed the following specs would make sense for Samsung's next flagship. By "make sense" I mean that the following specs are showing up on other manufacturer's devices and Samsung has always intended for their phone to be the bench setter so anything less is probably unlikely.

1. 5" Super AMOLED Full HD screen. "Full HS" implies 1080p. It should be emphasized that FULL HD is becoming a new standard for Android flagships so it's logical to assume 1080p will be on the S4.
2. Exynos 5450 quad-core Cortex A-15 with Mali-604 GPU. This chip is the successor to their newly released Exynos 5250. Although this rumor has gained a lot of traction from various tech gossip sites, I still have a feeling the 5250 will be in the S4.
3. 13 megapixel camera.
4. Integrated storage in 32, 64, 128GB sizes. Rumors suggest sizes of up to 128GB internal storage and I pray this is true. Having to pay a heavy premium for 64GB internal storage has been a reason not to purchase integrated storage only devices for consumers like myself and this is why I won't buy a phone that lacks expandable storage. Just look at the iPhone5. The 64GB model is $200 more expensive than the 16GB model. Charging $200 for 48GB is a con! Class-10 64GB microSDHC can be purchased in the $50-70 range....so how does one justify eating a $200 dollar premium on a phone that lacks expandable storage?
5. Thinner and lighter with improved build quality. Say what you will about that "cheap plastic" back, but I've never owned a phone with a battery that's easier to replace. That cover strips right off in an instant and pops back on just as easily. Perhaps it should be made from a grippier material. I hope they keep this in mind when they are revising the form factor.

Either way you look at it, it probably won't be available on Verizon until middle of next year (if at all). So if you need a phone sooner than that, it's not an option.

From your 1st post you sounded like someone who needs to prove his Android phone is better then an iPhone. Only reason I even brought it up.

That's just what I heard from other guys, but I don't care either way. The iphone 5 is a great phone, and the s3 is a great phone. It just depends what you want to do with your phone that determines which one you'd like more.

I'm in the same situation, got the iPhone 5 want to go back to Android (had the s2) waiting for the s4 it's going to be special.

You should get the S4 as it has a number of hardware and software improvements over the S3 and if content creation is a priority, the GS4 incorporates many of the Note 2 features without the larger screen. I am still playing with my GS4 and finding new things since I set it up on Saturday even though I received it on Thursday as I was out on business when it arrived.

If you are a gamer or use other data heavy apps and if the 16gb version is the only S4 offered, you are probably better off getting a 32gb S3, since 17gb more storage available.

The catch is the S3 32gb is being retired soon and the S3 16gb is being positioned as a $99 dollar entry level device for this segment.

This is a thread being resurrected from October. I am pretty sure everyone here will recommend the S4. This is a forums where people want the latest and greatest devices 99.9% of time.
