S3 reboots "regularly" every 1 day 11 (+/- a few) hrs

My unrooted/stock Verizon S3 keeps rebooting, somewhat regularly every 1 day and about 11 hours. It's been doing this for a few months, but I just found this app to keep a log. Unfortunately, I don't see a way to read the actual log to find out any cause for the crash.

I have the latest updates of both the system and apps, I'm really puzzled. Does this look like a hardware or software problem?

Should I try a factory reset? Or just ask for a replacement phone? (I got the phone around the start of the year). If I'm going to have to set the the phone up again from scratch (sounds very tedious), perhaps it makes more sense to do this with a replacement phone?

Thanks for any ideas/suggestions.

Make your backups. Before Verizon will replace it, they will want you to do a Factory Reset anyway. You say your Unrooted, does this mean you had it rooted at one time? If so did you clear the Binary count? No warranty if the Binary count is not 0.

Hi, no, it's never been rooted, I just mentioned this for completeness.

Can you tell me a bit more about backups? Can I backup everything (settings and apps, or ?).

I was expecting that I'd do a factory reset and then start installing my apps one or two at a time to see if I can pinpoint an app (or set of apps) that might cause the problem :-/ The backup would come in handy if I just wanted to install everything I had on the replacement phone and hope it wouldn't exhibit the same problem, correct?

Also, just curious, if you had to pick, what would be your guess, hardware or software as the cause of this?

Thanks!

So strange, I am sure I replied to this earlier, but I don't see my reply here (??)

I only mentioned unrooted for completeness of information, the phone hasn't been previously rooted. I guess time to try the factory reset if Verizon will have me do it anyway and see if that helps. Thanks.

Well, I did the factory reset, and it restored most (all?) of my apps and sure enough, 1 day and 8 hrs and 29 minutes later the phone rebooted again :-(

So I'm going to ask Verizon for a replacement on the 6 month old phone. Two quick questions (if anyone knows):

1. Is it certain that I am going to get a refurbished phone?
2. Does it make a difference if I go to a local Verizon store or contact Verizon on the web/phone for a replacement in terms of getting a new vs refurbished phone (or otherwise)?

I was really hoping the factory reset would fix this.

If I get a replacement phone, will it automatically be able to download my apps like this one was after the factory reset?

If so, I will give that a try and hope it won't reboot. If it does, then I'm not really quite sure how to proceed. Having to wait about 32 hours to see if the phone will reboot will make it very difficult to try out various combinations of apps (and I really don't think I have anything esoteric loaded/installed). It would be challenging enough to deal with the vast combinations if there was no delay, but this will make it impossible to pinpoint the app causing the problem (unless I could read the logs - but from what I've seen, you need to be rooted to do this, at least the apps I found require this).

So, I hope the replacement phone will fix this.

More than likely it will be a Refurbished phone. With the new phone just login with your GMail account and it should re-download your apps. They will always be listed under My Apps by tapping the Menu soft-key and select My Apps.
