S4 microphone not working for calls but works for loud speaker.

So I've been having this problem recently. It works fine on loud speaker but without it people can't hear me on the phone. I tried safe mode, turned off and removed battery, this were the stuff i found online to help. Oh, the microphone also works for the video recording. I'm not sure what to do but I saw on a thread thaty said to use a pin and clear the debris from the small hole next to the charger hole. It seems people have had success from it but I'm not sure if it would damage the phone further. Is it okay to poke the hole with a pin?

This has worked for many people when nothing else did. Just be careful not to go in too far.
