I am looking for some help, I have recently purchased a Galaxy S4 everything seems ok with it but I can't change the screen lock from swipe. All of the options are greyed out and I can't select them. I have already tried unchecking the device administrators and resetting the security credentials but this hasn't helped. I have also tried restoring factory settings but still nothing, I would be grateful I anyone could give me some help. Thanks.

I'm just going to throw this out there. Did you purchase this phone second-hand? If that is the case, it seems like the previous owner may have had this phone connected to his or her company's mobile device policy. Depending on how that company set up the policy, restricting screen lock is absolutely plausible.

The phone was supposedly brand new from a bidding website but I'm starting to doubt it now. Is there any way to reset or get around these settings?

I had same issue. I fixed it by removing a WiFi account that was using requiring a screen lock to be on the network.
Try and remove any saved wifi accounts. Otherwise, some apps also require you too have a screen lock. This is done for security purposes.
Hope this helps.

I'm still stuck on this one. I've tried the following
  • Uncheck device administrators
  • Clear Credentials
  • Clear cache partition
  • Wipe data / factory reset, both from settings screen and recovery

For some background here's how I got into this. I just upgraded my rooted phone from MK2 to NC5. I was connected to my exchange mail through the native android mail app. I also had FoxFi installed, which installs a certificate and was the reason I had a screen lock while I was running MK2. After upgrading to NC5, I can't enable a screen lock because all options are greyed. I do not have an encrypted sd card. I do not have saved VPN connections

My was all greyed out except the pin lock, so what I did is go into settings, then into security, then into encrypt device, then select set screen lock type and from there you can select type of screen lock, so I selected swipe once you choose, select set screen lock type and it fixed it for me.

I signed up just to help you FYI :)

So I was reading the forums because I had the exact problem with my Note 3, but managed to figure out a very simple fix that didn't require any loss of data, system wipe, cache reset etc.
1. I had my screen lock set to "pattern" and as you stated, some options were greyed-out.
2. Change your lock type to "PIN" for high security.
3. After doing that, you should now have the full list of options to select from.

Hope this helped if you haven't already figured it out:)
