My sister's Galaxy S5 shuts down when the battery is at about 30%. Does she need to replace the battery or can this be fixed by just fully draining and then fully recharging the battery a few times? Thanks. :)

Welcome to Android Central! That's typical behavior of a failing battery. Get a replacement battery.

I have had the same problem. I bought a new battery (non-genuine) and the same thing happened after 2 weeks. I bought a new genuine battery and haven't had any problems since.

That can happen with any lithium battery. Dendrites cause it, and there's no way of preventing them yet. (The battery industry, and the automotive industry, are spending billions trying to find a way.) The only thing you can do is not let the battery drain any lower than 45%. (Lithium batteries are not deep-discharge batteries. Deeply [any lower than 40%] discharging one may actually cause a dendrite.)
