S5 Textured Pearlized Finish and the S7 Edge's Edge Protection

Am I the only one that likes the textured (plastic) pearlized finish on the back of the S5? I know a lot of people criticized the plastic back but I didn't have a problem with it and actually like the look of the S5's back better than the S7. At this point I'm still interested in upgrading to the S7 but it won't be for it's looks.

So since it would be counter-productive to cover up (as in protection) the S7 Edge's edge, how much more vulnerable is it than a S7 with a case like the minimal Spigen Ultra Hybrid?
