S5 video, saved to sd card, doesn't playback

Playing for a short bit led me to believe that: Recording video to the sd card (default) of more than about 10 seconds, causes errors in playback. The native player won't play it, and MX Player usually won't, but if it does, will just show blocks on the screen with no real image. Video of less than 5 seconds play just fine, until a longer video is played. Then it won't play anything until a new short video is recorded.

Unmounting the sd card causes it to save video to the device. That has no issues whatsoever. It saved and played a five minute video beautifully.

Copying the sd card video to the mac, would not play in vlc, mplayerx, or quicktime. A (random) codec reader i downloaded said it did not recognize the file.

How is the card formatted, FAT32 or exFAT, and how large is a 10 second video (in MB or GB)? I'm sure that's not it - 10 seconds is too sort for any format I know to cause it - but you can't store a file larger than 4GB on FAT32 storage media.

Run a full write/read test on the card. Run SD Insight on the card to make sure it's not a counterfeit card. (If it's a 2GB card programmed to say it's larger, anything you put on it that's larger than 2GB will corrupt.) If it's a valid card (not made in 1970, the right size, the manufacturer it claims to be), run SD Card Tester and choose a file the size the card claims to be. That will write to the entire card and compare what's on it with what it wrote. If the card is bad, you'll know. (If it's a SanDisk card, just go to SanDisk Online RMA Request and fill out the form. They'll replace the card. If not, you'll have to try to get it replaced by whatever company you bought it from. Which is one reason I buy only SanDisk - another is that, other than snapping one card in half, I've yet to have a problem with one of theirs, and I've been buying them since they started coming out with them - anyone need a 32MB card? Their warranty on the good cards is 10 years - the cards last a lot longer than that. SD cards aren't supposed to last that long.)

Wow. So much to learn!

SD Insight, under Manufacturer, says "SD Card is Invalid". I guess that solves the issue right there.

I bought this for a few dollars cheaper from "Warehouse Deals, Inc" That's an Amazon thing. I wonder if someone bought a real one and returned a fake one. The card looks just like the real one (based on the image on Amazon.)

This seems strange, as it stored and played my music just fine. Though, i did not test that extensively. Is that it? Can it be that it needs reformatting first? Should i try some other test on my mac? Or, just return it now and buy a new one (for about $10 more.)

* On further testing, the stored music is bad too. I copied it to my mac and tested a random file.

Erase Disk from Disk Utility ran with no errors.
