S6 Circles around many of my app icons. Icon inside is smaller

I have verified that as applications are updated on my phone their icons are updated and have a ring around them so this appears to be the reason for the modified icons.

just discovered the same by buying a new samsung A8.... on the Nexus5 it was not happening... is there a way to remove it and have normal icons?
