Welcome. :)

A remote diagnosis is hardly possible. A visit to a repairer seems to be indicated.

Hi All.

I actually have the answer for this if you have not already found it.

My problem was the screen would go blank with a little x in the corner and refuse to charge or allow me to do anything.

The problem here is the circuitboard inside where you connect to your charger is faulty. Your Samsung when connected thinks its connecting to the VR machine.

All you need to do (if your phone is under warranty that is) is take it to a samsung shop and get them to change the the board inside.

This is a common problem if your phone is on and off charge a lot as it breaks the connectors slightly inside.

I hope this helps as it was starting to drive me crazy but since i took it to Samsung and had it fixed Ive changed to a wireless charger and problem has been solved.

Cheers All

Another probably "Sleep of Death" query: My S6 is totally unresponsive. Have tried all variations of holding every combination of the only 4 buttons on the phone I can think of from one at a time through to all 4 together. For far longer than the recommended 15 seconds too. Nada. The LED is still flashing green so not totally dead. Plug it in to charge and doesn't register that it is connected - no response from the phone and when plugged into my laptop to back it up my laptop is telling me to "connect device".
When it did this I had a notification (so green LED was already flashing) and the screen was locked (so already black) and was streaming music through Spotify when it just stopped. The music stopped playing mid-song and I got no response to pushing any buttons.
Trying to call it - goes straight through to voicemail without ringing and doesn't respond to any messages sent.
Does anyone have any advice that has not already been posted or has anyone that has had this problem also have nothing work?
Happy to provide more details people think may be relevant.
Phone was part of a "extend your contract & get a free phone" deals from Vodafone (my service provider in NZ) so is a legit Samsung phone. About 6 months old. This is the first problem I have had with it. Have been into see the local Vodafone store and I have found more useful information online than what they were able to tell me in store. I live in a small town so there is no Samsung store I can go to.
Any help greatly appreciated!!

Re: S6 edge - black screen - no response

By the way.... if this is what I think it is, it is called the "Sleep of Death" or "SOD"... if you read around, you might see that pop up from time to time. What is going on is that when you turn off the screen, your phone will eventually go into what is called 'deep sleep'... it is a low-power mode that puts the phone into a kind of suspended animation to conserve power. It wakes up automatically from time to time to do things like check email or take a call or SMS, but when you hit the home button or power button, it is supposed to then wake the phone up.

An SOD occurs when the something causes the phone to not be able to trigger that wake up... it is a fairly common problem for people who run custom ROMs or kernels, especially for newer phones (takes some time for custom devs to work out the kinks).

Have you made any system modifications to the phone? Like rooting your phone? Rooting a phone wouldn't cause this, but some kind of tool that fusses with your system software could.

In any case... keep an eye on it. If it happens again, then it might be a sign of something wrong with your phone... if it does occur again, I would suggest you do a factory reset (yeah, I know, those kind of stink). This may clear out whatever is causing your phone fits. If it STILL happens after that, you might want to get it replaced.

Your display most likely failed completely... the drop damaged something and there's not much you can do other than get it repaired.

Hi, I hope this somehow helps,

My Samsung S6 had the black screen problem and seemed to respond to the buttons i pressed, like the red light when charging and the flashing blue light when booting up, and vibrations from screenshotting.

Somehow after lots of Power+Vol buttons for over an hour, and also tapping the screen while frustrated, I managed to put the phone in Emergency mode, it stayed black screened for a bit but after more pressing of the power button the screen finally showed up, in Emergency mode, I then disabled emergency mode and now it's back to normal.

Honestly after all of that, I think it was just waiting for the phone to sort itself out, I don't really think I helped it much but I'm going to post my 'method' anyway, I hope this has helped anyone :)
