S6 Edge dead USB port

The USB port on my wife's S6 Edge (Sprint, from Best Buy) stopped working after a couple of months.. The Samsung rep at Best Buy said there's no warranty coverage if she doesn't have insurance. She got a wireless charger and that seems to be working most of the time. If she's willing to forego a loaner or replacement phone, shouldn't there be warranty coverage on something like this?
 
It seems that there should be a manufacturer warranty. Have you tried contacting Samsung directly?
