S6 Edge Getting Hot?

My phone usually heats up quite a bit when I am using it. I was charging it just now and had it directly in front of me. I smelled something weird but I did not think the source would be my phone, until I accidentally touched the charger cable (the usb port thing that connects it to the phone) and it was EXTREMELY hot. I am not even exaggerating about the temperature because it was hot to the extent my finger pulled away immediately after touching it. I felt that something was amiss so I turned off my phone thinking that maybe it is heating up again due to some apps still running in the background. But after turning it off I heard a vibration and on the screen there was a triangle symbol with a thermometer picture which I presume is a warning that something is over heating! Immediately, I turned off the electricity and removed the cable. Then I smelled that familiar weird smell again. My phone only was charged up to 40% at that time!

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?! I was so worried that my phone could have exploded if I did not notice this.

I was wondering if when i go to ATT will they make me choose another s6 edge or can it be an iphone or any other phone because i was hoping to go back to iphone????

If you just got the phone less than 2 weeks ago, you should be able to exchange it for something else.

Mine gets as hot as 35C too :S

I've seen mine get as bit as 42 degrees but I have du battery saver installed and it has a cup cooler on it and warns me when it's getting too hot and obviously once I click to cool it down it goes back to normal. It's happened on all my Samsung's and I've had the s3 s4 s5 s6 s6 edge and s7 edge. It's mostly when playing games which I do alot of and when charging. I'm not too worried about it as I've had this phone for 6 month and battery life is normal and running smoothly still. But if your really worried get it replaced or do the reset. I've also had iPhone and they also get hot. You have to think all the technology that goes into such a small device if using all the time it's going to get hot just like consoles do after playing for a while.
