S6 Fingerprint Backup Password Reset

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6, and for my unlock screen I use a pin. However, for some applications, I use a fingerprint unlock as well as a pin.

Recently, the scanner was unable to read my fingerprint so my phone disabled the fingerprint unlock option and came up with the notification "Enter backup password to verify fingerprint." I thought I remembered the right password, but apparently not, so I am unable to change or update my fingerprint at all.

From what I've read, a lot of people have problems on the lock screen, but my lock screen is fine since I use a pin, I just can't remember my backup password for my fingerprint. I've already tried Samsung's Find My Mobile, and I would really like to avoid doing a factory reset.

Any ideas on how I either reset my backup password or somehow change my fingerprint?

Re: S6 Fingerprint Backup Password Reset

I tried this and it only applies to the password for the lock screen which is different than my backup password since for my lock screen I use a number pin and that works fine! It's just the backup password to access the fingerprint security that I can't remember.

I know how to do it, and ALLLLLLLL of the methods on these forums are wrong. And I talked to Samsung twice, and they didn't even know how. I have zero programming ability - but I am very analytical and so when faced with the very unsavory "factory reset only" option, I just honestly used deductive common sense, and within 3 min I was one happy MF when I tried to turn on Private Mode amd instead of deflating me with the Enter Your Backup Password for the 500th time, it pulled the fingerprint scanner up, I ran my finger over it, and FNA it vibrated and opened. And trust me, this is so simple, you'll will be shocked that no one seemingly has a clue. And it's not breaking (or jailbreaking), it's just the owner telling the phone to stop asking for the backup password, and let's try the fingerprint scan again.

Hey guys I had this problem and it was driving me nuts. The answer was so simple it drove me nuts too. All you need to do is go into settings select lock screen and security, select finger prints, then when that little white box comes up with the picture of the finger print and request for back up password. Just put your finger over the scanner it will scan, then select change password and you can input a new password. That's it! aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!!

That didn't work for me. I can unlock my phone and use all functions, but i can't go in and change the finger print because the back up password doesn't work. i get this message Screenshot_2015-09-29-11-35-25 (1).jpg

any suggestions on how to clear the password and finger print other than a hard reset?
