S6 updated and now wont recognize pattern or fingerprint to unlock! HELP!

My friend bought a S6 a few months ago.
This is the 2nd time this has happened.
The device updated and now she can't get into it.
She has tried her fingerprint, pattern, backup pin, google account, android device manager, (she doesnt have a samsung account)...
We even tried a few tips that we dug up online...(crashing the unlock screen with the * trick, calling the phone and then getting into the settings, etc) and nothing has worked.

She is trying to avoid resetting it again.

Any ideas what she can do or even why the heck this happens every time it does a system update?
(sounds like an internal processor/memory issue)

PLEASE HELP!

I am in the Google account but see no option to reset password. The phone does not recognize my pattern or the backup PIN. Hmmmmm.
