My brother and I recently got the new s6 regular and when we first used it we downloaded the update and then it got very hot. After that, my brother's s6 doesn't get hot anymore but mine is still hot. It gets EVEN more hot when I charge it.

I set everything to the lowest setting. Brightness at lowest, no auto, power saving.
I tried factory reset three times, wiping cache partition, tried to turn it off and let it cool but when I charged it it instantly got hot. All these doesn't work. Help!

Sounds like you may have to exchange it for a new one. Mine got slightly warm when I downloaded a dew dozen apps when I first got it. It doesn't exhibit the behavior at all when charging. Take it back to the store and don't leave until you are happy. Try out the replacement before leaving.

Just created an account to reply to this as I'm getting a similar issue.

When I 1st got the phone it was dead in the box (no battery charge at all) which is odd because phones usually come with a bit of charge in them. Charged the phone up at home and all was well for ~2 days with decent battery life but it was oddly hot.

This morning my phone alarm didn't go off and the phone screen would only show momentarily when I hit the power button. In that flicker of life I could see an overheating message which made sense because it was... unreasonably hot. It hurt to touch the camera for more than a second. So I unplugged it from its charger and turned it off and let it sit for a bit. After a while I charged it to ~6% using the fast charger but this went to 0% within 10 minutes without turning it back on. Now it won't charge at all using my USB charger at work.

I will be exchanging the phone for a new one as I suspect it is a defective device but it may be something to watch out for.

Yeah you clearly have a defective unit, glad you were able to detect this before your exchange time was up. Mine only gets slightly warm when I'm in a bad cell reception area and or when I use wireless charging, it gets to about 86 degrees F. But that's as bad as it gets or should get from my experience. Mine has never been hot.

That is good to hear and hopefully the new unit will behave like yours. It was extra disappointing because the phone blew my mind for the 2 days it was working. Crazy upgrade from my HTC Inspire 4G.

Update: Replaced the phone and the difference is night and day. It is no longer running warm in my pocket at all hours when doing nothing and behaves as expected.

Not sure if that helps with your original issue SwiftMCPro but it might give some insight.

86F is the hottest you have been?! That surprises me. I have been 94-96 six times in the last 3 days (one while fast charging, and one on a std 1A charger. At least it's not like my old DNA which hit 113F off charger a couple weeks before I retired it.

Haven't heard from the OP in a while. Wondering if we've been punked.

Wow, when using quick charge it stays around 80 degrees during wireless it stays around 86, I think 1 or 2 times I did get to 91 degrees.

Mien can get up to 92ish when using wireless charging. I have had it spike to 98 during usage but I was also outside and it was H-O-T out.

Mine depends on weather, in my country its very hot so as the phone but on airconditioned places its cool to mid warm...

yes, I'm also facing similar issue, s6 edge is overheating..and I informed to ATT on this today, they upgraded my software but still seeing same issue.

My first s6 edge overheated and after one day the screen stopped rotating. The second one stopped rotating after 14 days (just in the nick of time to return it to verizon!). So I exchanged it for a regular s6 and I noticed it too overheated but only when I used the fast charger. I don't use the fast charger anymore and haven't had any more overheating issues

Mine normally stays under 87f as I stated on previous posts, but can spike for a few moments during wireless charging at around 92f. I recently had an anomaly where I was wireless charging from 30-70% and I grabbed my phone and it was very hot, checked the temperature and it was 98f. It only happened that 1 time, I don't know what causes this. I guess it's normal though... Right?

Hi,

I started using my Samsung S6 Edge only yesterday. Today I noticed that it gets very hot:
1) when it charges
2) when I take pictures
3) when I browse on Internet or send chats.

I don't even play games.

Also, I noticed that it discharges quite quickly.

Went to the shop where I got it (official Samsung dealer) - no technical staff today. Only slaes. They asked me to come tomorrow for a repair. It seems to be a defective battery and if so, it needs to be exchanged. I am afraid that if they try opening it, they might fix this but cause other issues.

Unfortunately, not easy to demand a refund or exchange, as it is in Cambodia...

Very disappointed and not sure what can be done...

For me texting is a huge culprit. I can deal with phone getting warm when its charging, but texting by itself really heats up fast. Why does texting use up so much cpu resources?

Are you guys using cases? Certain cases can prevent enough heat from radiating. With dual-glass sides, the S6 should be able to radiate substantial heat to keep the internals cool.

Also, I have noticed that Google Fit caused my S6 to get very hot right below the camera on the back, and battery life was normal. This happened while the phone was not even being used. I uninstalled Google Fit and everything is back to normal.
