S7 battery is trash. Why?

Just make sure to keep location history, improve accuracy turned off under location setting. And smart network switch should be off if WiFi setting has it. Other than that there is no need to tweak settings much. But doing those things will make big difference on stand-by drain. it wouldn't hinder using any location based app.

I had similar issues. I'm 99% sure it was something wrong with the phone radio that was all the time attempting to connect to LTE (where my chip is capped to 3G only) so my fix was to only allow 3G and 2G.

However I also did other things before that that might have also helped:
- On location services, disable wifi and bluetooth optimizations/improvements
- Sweep through all settings (I can't remember exactly where they were) and disable everything related to auto reporting such as sending reports to google and samsung, and automatic system scans, there's a lot of hidden garbage like that, just make sure you go through all settings and disable as much as you can
- On another desperate attempt I purchased package disable pro, and disabled lots of stuff, I don't if it helped or not, but at least there are less background services running.
- Look for any apps that might also do too much work in background, the best test is to unplug your phone at 100% at night and after ~8hs of sleep and completely no use (not even moving the device around so doze can work) take a look in the moring at the battery usage, you shouldn't really have many things there, only phone idle, phone radio, android OS and android system, and probably a tiny bit of screen and google services, but really nothing else. Make sure you do this with either plane mode or all internet disabled so you don't get notifications (and you will sleep better!)

Wow, 0.5%/hour? Do you turn everything off or something? According to GSam, my S7 consumes about 2.5%/hour while idling in my pocket or on my desk, but I don't turn anything off. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, Location, everything is on.

Actually using the phone though, it ranges from 5%/hour to 20%/hour, which is pretty high, but I came from using a Lumia 640, and surprisingly, both the idle and usage consumption rates of my S7 match the battery consumption rates of my old Lumia 640.

I don't use wifi because don't need to so that's off, BT and location are always on, NFC is off. Have about 65 packages disabled and and use aggressive doze.

But the 640 has a 2500mah battery IIRC...which means the S7 is consuming more battery because its a 3000.

What is aggressive doze?

The latest Android OS has a doze feature which turns itself on after your phone has been sitting unused for a while. There's an app available (paid) which basically puts your phone in doze mode much faster than the OS and also prevents the motion sensors from bring the phone out of doze mode. Without the app, if you pick up your phone, even if you don't use it, it'll come out of doze just because it senses motion. Otherwise with Greenify, even if it's in your pocket while you're moving, it stays in doze and saves a lot of battery.

You're right about that. It's a very good point. Considering that my S7 has a larger battery than my 640 while having the same-ish discharge rate could only mean that the S7 uses more power. I was just pleasantly surprised to see the consumption rate of 2.5%/hr idling, which is the same %/hr I got when I used to use my Lumia. I guess the point I was trying to make was that, practically speaking, both my 640 and S7 last pretty much the same amount of time.

I really miss my 920 :(

I just upgraded from an HTC one m9 to an s7 and battery is way better than the HTC. My m9 would be down 15-20% about an hour after I got to work just by carrying it in my pocket. If I left it sitting on my work station, 5-10% would drain in that first hour.

I unplugged my s7 this morning at 3:15a and still have 68% at 4p. It's been in my pocket all day while I've been walking around at work. Like suggested, maybe you just got a bad one.

You have to take into account the higher pixel resolution and the more powerful hardware. Also depends on how you've set it up. My setup idles at 0.5% per hour but on particularly heavy use (online game) burns through 13% per hour (granted I do have an Edge, so percentages may be smaller in my case due to bigger battery).

I miss WP8.1. Truth be told, if WP8.1 hadn't been abandoned, I'd probably still be using it. I just got real tired of the wait-and-see paradigm of W10m, so I switched back to Android.

Anyway, I started using Power Saver and turning off Wi-Fi when I wasn't using it, and I managed to get the idle consumption rate down to about 1.5-2.0%. Not bad at all. It's been exactly 24 hours since I last charged my phone, and I still have 48% left.

Just as final addendum, wanted to mention my s7 battery is poor too, but when I put it in ultra power savings mode (rooted to allow any 6 apps including camera), battery goes a whole week from single charge. That's what saved my S7

I just replaced the battery in my 2 year old S7 and it lasts much longer. OP may want to consider doing that.
