AC Question

For the last several months, I haven't been very happy with my S7 battery life. I've tried all of the "fixes", installed Accubattery for a time (to see which apps were possibly rogue) and always roll with my screen brightness way down. It all came to a head this weekend, when I decided to reformat. So far, all this has done is make it worse. Last night, I was full at 11 pm, and by 4:20 am, with NO use, I was at 86%. By lunch time, I was at 50%. I then went from a full battery at noon, to 5% at 5:45, with what I would deem "normal" use. There are no system updates to be had at this time either. 2 more issues I've had since the reformat...the lights at the bottom of my phone light up, and my screen is blank and unresponsive for anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute. I deleted Accubattery thinking it was doing me a disservice. It had been 2 days, and still hadn't come up with a list of which apps were consuming my battery. System battery usage was showing a high of 22% (android sytem)

Welcome to Android Central! Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

You might have to install a 3rd party battery monitor, like GSam Battery Monitor, to get the Cell Signal Strength graph.

I merged your threads. The cell signal strength graph shows that it drops to mediocre with some regularity (which also corresponds to the steeper decline of the curve). This may be the main problem, since poor signal causes increased battery usage, as the phone tries to maintain the signal. Can you see how the battery life compares when you're in an area with strong signal? Or see how it looks if you're on Airplane Mode for a while (you can still turn on wi-fi in Airplane Mode, so it isn't completely useless).

Thanks for merging...I'm new, clearly! I seem to get that sort of jumping around both at work and at home. I actually get strong signals at both places, but I always see it reconnecting. I will try airplane mode and post those results! Thank you

Any thoughts on the lack of responsiveness? It seems every time I look at it as its charging, the red led indicator isn't lit, and it takes a minute for any response by pressing any of the buttons, or combination of them.

Yes, that is what I mean. I will have to try and see. As for the battery, airplane mode keeps that signal finder low, but as soon as I need the "phone", it spikes high.

You actually have Airplane Mode turned on for a lot of that time? I would have thought that the Cell Signal should read completely zero when Airplane Mode is on, since the cell radio would then be off (and therefore not be able to detect what strength the cell signal is).

Yes, when it's in airplane mode it is at zero. When I have taken it out of airplane mode, it definitely does spike as it was before. I've been on the go today, so I haven't been able to leave it strictly on airplane.

I will be booting into safe mode in a little bit.

That's correct. It's tedious, but there's no other easy way to troubleshoot it, unless there are any other clues, or unless anyone recognizes this particular pattern of glitches.

The phone has been 10+ hrs, and there's still 70% battery left, which is pretty good, even if the screen has been on for only 50 minutes.
