On my s7 edge i am getting only 2 hours SOT and the main battery drainer is android system i dont know what is keeping its battery usage so high?
Chaos Beck isn't alone.First, 16-1/2 hours of battery time just using 48% of the battery (that's what your screenshots say) isn't something to complain about, it's something to brag about.
Second, Android System used 8% of that 48%, or 3.84% of the battery - in over 16 hours. That's not bad either.
Third, the screen is normally the largest consumer of power. With an AMOLED screen, if there's a lot of light color showing (as opposed to solid black wallpaper, that uses even more. The brighter the screen, the more current an AMOLED screen draws. So turn the brightness down to the point that it's still completely usable, but not all the way up. (I find that 20% is more than enough in my house. Just tell the Google assistant "set the screen brightness to 20%". If you need a little more, try 25% or 30%.)
But you're bragging with that "50% in 16.5 hours". A lot of people wish they could go from 100% to 20% (which is bad for the battery) in 8 hours. Their batteries don't last a whole workday.
Are you actually asking about the S7 edge? That's a 10 year old phone, so it would not be unusual for the battery to be quite degraded by now. Also one thing i noticed, when the phone first boots after completely factory resetting the phone there is no standby battery drain but after connecting to the network and completing usual setup like logging in accounts and installing apps the standby battery drain starts.
Yes. I had the battery replaced by Samsung in 2024 but still the battery drain issue was not fixed even after recalibrating the new battery. Thats when i knew something's wrong with the OS and when i started exploring i found out that Android oreo on this phone runs bad and very poorly optimised and there is this thing called "Android System" app and cell standby which causes huge battery drain even when the phone is turned off. I checked it myself using GSam battery monitor and it was indeed the culprit. But don't know how to fix it as there is no way to unlock bootloader of Samsung phones released/purchased in the USA. And you also cant root it. Some say the battery drain was fixed by flashing the CP file from the nougat ROM but when i tried that the phone threw a warning right when it started to boot "QUALCOMM SECURE BOOT" something somethingAre you actually asking about the S7 edge? Already did that accubattery thing, it reported 94% battery health. I usually get around 3 bars inside my room and easily 4 bars outside, actually i'm not using a SIM card in the phone from few days i've put that SIM card in one of my spare phones just to see and check this very exact thing you told but still battery drain persists.Does GSam have a battery health feature? If not, then try using AccuBattery and see what it tells you about the battery health. Anything <85% indicates a fairly degraded battery -- this could still be the case with a replacement battery from Samsung, since that battery may have been sitting around on a shelf for years (or perhaps Samsung used a refurbished or repurposed battery).
Also, how is your cell signal? If it's only 1-2 bars, that can lead to significant drain as the phone struggles to latch on to signal. This can happen even when connected to wi-fi.
Should try thatWhat happens if you turn Airplane Mode on (and then turn wi-fi back on)? Does the battery drain still happen?
Sorry for the late reply. With airplane mode turned on, or even just turning the WIFI off, the battery drain is reduced, i can say like before overnight with the WIFI on i was losing around 10-15% sometimes upto 20% of battery but with airplane mode on or just turning the WIFI off the battery drain is like 5-8%. I've also heard that Samsung F ed up the modem in android oreo is that true? Is that what causes battery drain? What happens if you turn Airplane Mode on (and then turn wi-fi back on)? Does the battery drain still happen?
Yes that is right, when it is connected to cell service and wifi off, I usually get full bars in my room and even the wifi is near enough to maintain full signalWhen you turn the wi-fi off, is it still connected to your cell service?
Weak signal (from either cell tower or wi-fi) can contribute to battery drain, since the phone has to use more power to maintain the signal.
No it does not get warm during battery drain, Is ifixit a good place to get a recently newly manufactured battery? I do have a Galaxy S8 and that has no issues like this but the screen is gone, everytime i turn it on it flickers like crazy and the screen will only work when the brightness is set to like 28% or something and you know how much AMOLEDs cost, so i really have no choice atleast this S7 Edge is working to some extent. It can be difficult to pinpoint things like this. Even though you replaced the battery relatively recently, the battery itself may have been sitting on a shelf for a few years, therefore degrading on its own before you got it. Even though the battery health is reported as 94%, it's possible that the battery drains more quickly when under more stress due to its age.
Does the phone get significantly warm when you notice the battery drain?
Yea we actually bought both the phones in the US but unfortunately I live in India now and here its hard to find a good working AMOLED display, many of them are just knock ofs or normal LCDs, sometimes you get scammed like the listing says its AMOLED but the part what you get will be a cheap ol LCD, i've seen some where the bezels are a lot bigger and wider than the original display. And even ifixit does not ship to India soo guess i'll be using the S7 Edge how it isI would guess that most replacement batteries for a given model were manufactured around the time those models were released, so any battery you get will already be pretty old. Some might be in good condition, but others might be already pretty degraded.
Screen replacement will depend on where you located and the shop you go to. In the US, I'd guess the range is around $100-200.
