S7 locking again after entering pattern lock?

Hello, I'm posting for my dad who is.... less than tech savvy to say the least. He has a galaxy s7 and had recently installed an update, now whenever he enters his unlock pattern as soon as his home screen pops up the phone locks itself immediately and he has to enter the pattern all over again. Whether this is due to the update or not, I'm not sure, I kinda had to piece together what was going on since he was so frustrated and doesn't know a whole lot about phones.

Does it constantly do that or he can successfully unlock it after the second attempt?
