S7 or S7 Edge

Hello Folks,

I want to upgrade from a Lumia 950. I am just curious to know whether the "edge" feature really a plus point in day to day use or it is just gimmicky. If Edge really worth the extra bucks. Also, is S7 Edge suitable for single handed operation. I am unable to decide and pick one.

Thanks.

The edge features are a bit limited . I don't use it that much. However I like the extra real Estate. But if you want something easier to use one handed then I would suggest the regular s7. The S7 Edge is a tad bigger and harder to use one handed. I still use mine one handed sometimes, but it is certainly harder than a s7

I agree with dpham00. The larger screen is a benefit for me, and a main reason why I got the edge. I also love the curved screen on the edges, looks awesome in my opinion. The larger battery should be food for thought, although i'm not sure how much of a difference that is. Side note you can't use otterbox defenders with the edge (a staple that I have used with all my phones so far). Screen could be more vulernable than the s7 if your a bit clumsy at times.

I went with the s7 because the s7 edge in the store I played with for a while didn't feel comfortable and I kept accidentally hitting the edge.

I used the edge perhaps four times now, and probably will hardly use it. Screen size is nice however and the style is very pleasant. I also had the iPhone 5S and liked that one though small over the 6S or 6s+. Go figure. Like the style of both of them. However, for the screen needing a protector, I would opt for the S7 since they have them available and easier to put on.

The extra screen real estate is a boon for me on the Edge. It is easy to use one handed. And the battery in my Edge seems to last longer than the battery in my normal S7. Saying that the S7 is a great phone. Edge just edges it for me.

The Edge seems much sexier to look at. I didn't know a curved screen can be made to look as nice as this. Reminded me slightly of the old Lumia 800 curved screen design, which is a good sign since I never thought Samsung could equal, let alone exceed Nokia's hardware design capabilities. Color me (pleasantly) surprised!

The extended battery backup on S7 Edge is driving me to grab it. However, I know I would hardly be using the extra "edged" screen. Thanks my dear friends for your valuable inputs. I am from India. So I have to buy Exynos version of S7.

S7

Smaller and less likely to drop out of app when touching edge.

I had the edge for almost 4 days and returned it for the s7. The battery is not worth it. I originally wanted the edge for its size but quickly realized that the curved edge is silly. Also, cases are VERY limited if you want lots of protection for your phone.

Yeah, based on what I've read here, my (common sense) and handling the phone briefly in the store, I'm going with the non-edge version. It's cool (NOT sexy :o) to look at but not practical and apparently somewhat impractical.

I have them both right now, I went crazy but only one will stay, I am having a terrible time trying to decide, smaller S7 allows for better case selection, tempered glass and decent battery.

Edge though has no joke insane battery, I don't know why but something is tuned different, it's only 600mah more but I can get depending on use 6-8+ hours of SoT with the edge where the most I got on the S7 was about 5 hours.

As for reading, the edge is more pleasant, as for pocketability the S7 wins but not by much, it's weird, the edge is just not that much bigger than the S7 though when looking at them screen to screen it appears so large.

Edge functionality is Meh, but I will say quick app launch and some things like Twitter feed and stock quotes are useful, I use the app quick launch all the time as it actually is quite convenient.

Tough choice, right now I am leaning edge just due to battery and I do a lot of reading on my phone as I get tons of emails a day and wear glasses.

I swore I was going back to small phone this year but here we go again with the madness haha.

5 hours of SOT on S7 is very good provided it remains the same and does not drop to 2-3 hrs as the phone ages.

Edge is tempting but I strongly feel I shall be using only 10% out of it or may be not even that.

Which of the two is more handy? Can you share S7 and S7 Edge cons and pros point wise.

Edge looks cooler and has better battery. Those are probably the only reasons for going with edge really.

Both are actually quite amazing and offer similar yet different experiences with their own pros and little cons.

The difference is not really about edge features or the curved glass for me, it's about screen size and battery lfe.

That's not to say the edge features are not good, in fact I seem to use the quick app launch all the time which I did not expect to.

Size is interesting as the edge is just not that much bigger, yet it's a little taller but it's nearly the same in width and funny enough due to edge it feels considerably thinner than the S7.

Battery life is great in the S7 and incredible on the Edge, either will get you what you need out of it but if your like me and suffer from fear am anxiety and constantly check your battery consumption all day then the Edge is the right choice, I can easily get 6-8+ hours of SoT reliably, I can get 4-5 on the S7.

One area of concern is tempered glass, I love it and use it on every phone I have, I have it on the S7 and have another thing on the Edge, it's not like a pet film but curved and considerably more firm.

I am so torn over it I state at both devices as I just can't decide which to keep, small and compact, or larger display and longer battery, it's a tough decision, first world problems haha.

For me I prefer the regular S7. More comfortable, easier to use In one hand and I do not care for the edge feature. I had the S6 edge and edge plus and first thing I did was turning the edge features off, it was getting in the way. But to each his own of course.

Thank you everyone. Tomorrow I will check both the phones in a local store.
