S8 battery size-we are getting conned about improved capacity

The battery on my N7 was wonderful, while the battery on my S7E is the worst of any phone I've owned and I can't wait to get rid of it. How much more battery size would they be able to add if they made the phone just 1mm thicker? Of course it would get heavier as well.

I don't care if my phone is the thinnest on the block. I need all day of hard use on my battery. I would strap a car battery to my phone if I could. I hate
to recharge during the day. I like to unplug at 06:30 and still have battery life at 11:00pm when going to bed. Listening Samsung, Apple, Moto, etc.

I don't think they are.

Size doesn't always matter. I think nowdays it's more about efficiency. You can put a 5000mAh battery but if the software isn't optimized, then there's no point. Plus you'll end up with a thick and fat phone. Take the S7 Active for example. Thick phone and just OK battery performance. They need to optimize Samsung TouchWiz, there has always been issues with lag or battery drain. Think about why the Apple phones have better battery life despite smaller capacity.

That's exactly how my battery life was with my iPhone 6... Actually often I'd wake, get to work and then charge sometime in the morning because I didn't have to worry about absolutely having to charge at night.

Using a Galaxy S6 for last couple of months while waiting on news of S8 or G6... painful. Unplug at 6:30 and I'm at 80% by 8-9am and I'm at 20% by 4-5pm and needing to plug into car charger after 7. Sad.

I think the biggest issue here is how power consumption is handled and the optimization of apps to the phone's OS. Apple has long gone with relatively puny batteries but still manage to get respectable to great battery life from their devices. Android has always lagged in this regard. Having sad that, I've heard that Nougat (Android 7.0.1) is a very significant improvement over Marshmellow. But again, we heard the same thing with the rollout of Marshmellow and it really didn't seem to be true in real world use at least. And then there's the matter of the phone's CPU. The Snapdragons are (or at least have been) markedly inferior to the exynos chipsets in power handling as well as processing speed. Yet Samsung persists in giving us the Snapdragon chips while giving pretty much the rest of the world the exynos chips. How come we don't rate? Maybe the 835 will be better, but I'm not holding my breath.

another thing to consider is the power consumption from a newer more efficient processor, makes for longer lasting batteries.

Exactly. Each year Snapdragon release new processors and each one becomes more and more efficient. So if the battery stays the same size, it could still mean better battery life. The screen size is rumoured to get a little bigger so maybe we will get about the same life as the S7? Lets wait and see :D I'm sure Samsung are going to try hard to win back any lost customers (From Note 7) with the S8 and S8+

I'm sure a lot of people will wait for hands on reviews before they go out and purchase. Sometimes this is the smarter decision and could potentially save you money :)
