Android Central Question

I have received my S9+ today and the samsung keyboard is not making any predictions, not in any apps, I have checked and predictions are turned on, I have turned them off and on again and reset to default settings and still it isn't working, any ideas? I'm sure I had this issue when I used an S7 for a few days last year (while my other phone was being repaired). My other half has also got the S9+ today and predictions are working fine so it's something wrong with my phone or my Samsung account if it is following me from phone to phone? Any ideas?

I always install Swiftkey as one of the very first things, so I don't know much about the Samsung keyboard. Some people prefer GBoard (Google's keyboard) or other 3rd party ones. If you haven't tried Swiftkey, or any of the other aftermarket keyboards, you don't know what you're missing.

I concur. SwiftKey is always one of the first things I install on a new phone. To me, it far exceeds any of the stock keyboards and predicts better. It learns as you type, so it will know what you are trying to say.

If the issue is jumping from device to device, it might actually be an issue with something in your Google profile or even the carrier. What network are you on?

I have installed gboard and it is predicting words fine so I don't think it's a google or carrier setting

You need to go into the keyboard settings for the default keyboard and actually download a dictionary - none enabled by default on either Samsung keyboard. I fell into that trap.

That worked, thank you very much :D but how silly you have to do that to make it work!!!!

I have the same problem with the stock keyboard and no predictive text. There is no option to 'download' the dictionary that I can find in the keyboard settings - where does one find that on an S9?
Secondly what permissions does the Samsung keyboard need?
Third party keyboards not an option for me (much as I like gboard and swiftkey)
