S9+ Lock screen tap awake(not unlock)

Hi guys! I'm back to Android after like 8 years of being with iPhone. I do have some annoyances that I'm trying to figure out...one of which is the lock screen. Is there any way for me to be able to just tap the screen so that I can see the time and notifications? The only thing I can do now is hard press the home button to make the screen wake but then it goes into full unlock and makes me do the pattern password(because the face recognition isn't super reliable) and all I want is to look just at my lock screen
