S9 not saving individual text message notification sound

[Android Central Question]

So I upgraded to the S9 from S8 and set all my individual text message notification sounds. The problem is, when I delete the text string and I receive a new text from that same person, the notification defaults to the "stock" setting. How do I correct this?

As of Oreo, there are no more individual text notifications. Now there's just one for texts.

How do I correct this?

Assign each text conversation a specific text tone. Then, stop deleting your text strings.
