So I've had the update to kit kat option for the last few days but since I'm new to android I've been wary of doing it.

I use nova launcher, will this still work after the update ? What about aquamail and my handcent SMS app (I'm happy with it and don't want to use hangouts)

Is there a list of apps which kitkat will break?

Thanks for the help.

Yup go ahead and update! I was using nova before and after updating, everything will work! As long as you keep handcent your default, hangouts wont take over

I haven't seen any major issues that would make people not want the update. Take a look through the Nexus 4 KitKat forum and see how people are enjoying the update and if problems exists - let us know how you like it if you decide to update

I've read posts by a good handful of people who have a complete stock device and can't boot afterward, which required a factory reset losing all their data, or the update failed to work leaving with a bricked phone, and one occasion the update refuses to work due to a change in a file in the /system partition on a completely stock device.

I'd say even if it's an official Google update and you run stock, still backup your data. At least backup your apps data, by going into "Settings -> Backup and reset" and enable backup, then sync your device. Or you can use Helium which work without root if you install its companion desktop program.

Thanks guys. I installed and it all seems ok so far.

Haven't noticed many ui changes so most things must be under the hood. Not sure I like the new dialer though, will take time to get use to it I suppose.
