Saint Louis has 4G!!!

I work in West County (270/Manchester) and live in Troy, IL. When I ride down 64 most of the way I see a 4G signal.

For a brief moment on Wednesday, 4G lit up at max strength by West County Mall, but it has not returned.

When is the announcement supposed to be? I'd like to get some 4G love out at the edge of the STL Metro area ;)

I live in the O'fallon\Fairview Heights area. I hear that some people are getting 4g, but no luck here. I was hoping to pick up a signal since we are so close to the city, and I'm hoping that we will be able to pick up some signal soon. If we aren't ever able to get 4g, it's definitely not a deal-breaker/return for me or anything of that matter, but I will definitely be a little disappointed. Would really be nice to get some 4g.

Sprint - Nationwide Coverage shows 4G coverage in St. Louis now.

I'm kind of surprised by how small the 4G area is compared to other cities that have gotten 4G.

I wonder if there's any chance that the area will expand much at all in the near future, or if what they have on the map is pretty well it for the St. Louis area.

Got this tweet from @svinge, a Sprint 4G rep, after I asked about the possibility of St. Louis' 4G coverage expanding after its launch:

Sprint #4G coverage will continue to expand in launch mrkts & acrossU.S. What U see in a 4G city 2day willbe dif next month&so on

Looks more encouraging!

If that statement(if you can call it that) is true, then it seems that Sprint may have actually spent a bit of money to deploy WiMax in a decent fashion. What I'm hoping for is that Sprint/Clearwire has individual teams in each of these cities concentrating on just that city, and hopefully expanding them to a decent radius outside of the core market city. What the rep may have said may be true, because if I remember, when I asked the Sprint rep near my house(O'Fallon, IL) about 4g, he said it would most likely be in the east area around July. So that puts this deployment slightly ahead of schedule.

Who knows, hopefully we're in for some 4g love. If Sprint doesn't deploy 4g on the east side, then they are ignoring a large amount of their user base, and that's not cool.

Either way, just so anyone who wants to know knows, I'm new to this forum, just joined yesterday. I'm new to Android, and decent phones in general. Although, I am pretty tech literate. Anyway, I hope we see 4g soon on the east side, would definitely make our experiences better, and probably keep us locked on to Sprint for a while. Now, lets hope HTC/Sprint can come through with some decent updates, possibly a little money spent on some drivers or the like...

Wow, the map shows a lot of Jeff Co for coverage but very limited west county. Map must be wrong cause i can pick it up near chesterfield when driving through.

Weird leaving out Chesterfield, Ladue, parts of Kirkwood completely, which is the highest of high dollar locations.... also zoom in on the maps real tight... a good chunk of Downtown doesn't have 4g either, especially around the Ballpark, the Arch, the Dome/Americas Center,

not to mention the east side. they better put some up on the east side or IMO they have just isolated a LARGE amount of subscribers. as I see a lot more sprint subscribers over here on the east side than I do when I'm downtown, or even out in St Charles County.

High dollar locations but not a large population density area (cause they're rich folks). You don't have to be rich to have a 4G phone. Plus since it is a nicer area it is hard to get land for towers/etc and the township are usually douches about building anything.

reading the clear maps looks like South County has had an improvement in the 4g coverage, looks good on 270 now from Manchester all the way down to 55. looks like that hole there by South County center has been fixed too. anyone in south county confirm that, Also 4g now along hwy 40 from mason west to Timberlake Manor. nothing for fairview heights/Ofallon, IL areas yet but looks like Clear/Sprint is really working hard on filling in the gaps here in the STL metro area... time to do some road testing folks in these areas I mentioned, do ya got 4g yet????

I can say after having my Evo for the last month and living in south county that there is sporatic coverage at best. I never use 4g because my evo never wants to stay connected to it and it's just a battery drain. Even the corporate Sprint store in Sunset Hills doesn't get 4g, they have a repeater in store, but it doesn't even allow for any bars to register on the strength meter. So, if you live or work in south county don't plan on 4g. Oh, just for kicks, my speeds (when 4g works) are about 2 meg down and 90kb up. That's not a typo, 90kb! $10 per month well spent on a big screen and 3g.
