Sammy radio quality Vs Moto

This is the first time i have heard of Samsung having better reception than a blackberry....lol.

I would rate blackberry, Nokia and Motorola as the best based on phones i have used. I never used lg or Sony.

Never owned a Nokia, but I agree with the other two on your list. I have to add HTC though. Not quite as strong as Moto radios, but very close in my opinion.

Also, I have never heard of Samsung trumping BB in signal strength either. Hopefully the GS3 will be different.

Sounds like a faulty BB!

I've used htc, lg, samsung, and moto, and I'll rate them like so, worst to best.

Samsung, (tied for 2) lg and htc, moto.

The htc's I've had were older so... Gsm G1, cdma hero, evo shift...

I have the Galaxy S1, and have no radio problems at all.

I never had any radio issues with my fascinate either. My nexus the bars showed a little less but never had any dropped calls or issues like that that some were having. Moto has better radios but if you are in a real crap area no matter what phone you have the radio is going to take a beating.

One of my friends just received his S3 (Pebble Blue, of course). Activated it, could not make phone calls. Signal bars flopped between 0 and 4 while my old stupid phone stayed locked on 4. AT&T store couldn't make it work, gave him the choice of: A - trade straight across for a refurb (shipped last week and already refurbs!) or B - They would charge him for another one and deduct the cost when he returned the broken one. All that took almost 2 hours at the store. They finally agreed to do a straight-across trade for a brand-new one on Tuesday when they get them in. That only after we started talking about lawyers...
All the problems he was having appeared to be with the radio.

All I have to say is good luck to all the ones who start having signal issues!

That honestly seems like he got a dud. I mean if he got it activated then a day later something like this happened i could see it being the radio but to happen immediately after activating seems like it was a lemon.

That just sounds like a jacked up phone to me.

It's good info, but maybe since this was an AT&T handset the radio setup, QC's, etc., contributed somewhat to the situation. I don't know, just hope that VZW's model doesn't have the same issues.

The AT&T subforum might be interested in this post too.

Nevermind (original post removed by me).... I feel like a broken record.

Somehow I doubt they have refurbs. Also, always a lame thing to threaten retail employees with lawyers and obviously they were nice enough to NOT refer you to AT&T legal and let you drag that on for a few thousand bucks and a couple months.

LOL, "I demand the opportunity to get my new replacement phone in a sealed box, or else I will sue!!"

Speaking generally...

The "fact" that moto has the best radios is becoming more and more of a myth. My rezound has bested several newer motos including several razrs and a bionic in both signal strength and data speed in both high and low service areas.

That being said however, Samsung has a bad habit of using radios that are not worth the plastic they are cased in. I'm not saying that the s3 will be the same, but the track record does not look very good. It's really a toss up these days and is model and individual phone specific

HTC does have a strong radio...I often see my TB pull in a signal as good as my wife's Droid X. In fringe area's though, her Droid wins every time.

Also, you cannot say that the S3 will be the same - the radio is totally different than any other Samsung VZW has ever carried. The track record does not look good...I admit. But things are a lot different with the S3...only time will tell how it performs, not previous Samsung phones.

Here is a little more info about why Moto has the best radio and just general cell stuff too: "Motorola has been doing this for a long long time. They basically invented the mobile phone. I'm sure they have guys on the team that can code radios in their sleep. They have also patented everything. They had a 10 year head start (at least) in making a phone work with a mobile network.

That's where the RIL comes in http://en.wikipedia....Interface_Layer this is how the software and other pieces of hardware talk to the radio chip which tells the network whats happening ie making a phone call, looking at naughty things on my browser. No 2 RIL would be the same. Razr and Razr Maxx excluded.

You need strong hardware which qualcomm does a pretty good job of doing but you also need the software to be able to talk to both the network and the hardware of the phone and do it well."

Plus with samsung going with qualcomm radios this time hopefully that helps since they are no longer using their own crappy radios. Only time will tell, but if it has any hints of a crap radio I will return it right away and wait for something else, but with all the reviews saying signal is pretty good it alleviates some of the worries from previous samsung devices.

Not to be a jerk here, but no where in that thread does anyone give any reasoning as to why motos are the best. In the post quoted the guy only says because they have been doing in longer. That excuse dried up at most 5 years after other manufactures entered the market. I have heard people talk about patents they dont understand and claims of real world use similar to mine of motos being better, but never have i seen any real testing data laboratory or real world that proves any of the claims of the internet. I would think that if moto really was better they would be doing their own testing and hiring independents to do the same and the plastering it all over the place. The are not doing this, so either A)They did the testing and it was false, or B)They are too stupid(which may be the case sense they just were acquired). Both of these are reason enough to shy away.

I actually like moto products, but untruthful claims and generalities rule the web and i like to stamp out what i can. Lets not turn into the apple community and just automatically assume things that manufactures and fans claim are true.

My opinion about moto and reception goes back to before Android even came out....One phone in particular the E815. Had 2 phones from another manufacture also.

There is a reason I'm typing this from a RAZR and not my Rezound....2nd Rezound and 2nd Sim card. And a reason why I no longer have a g nex.

moto has better reception? there are some moto phones with signal issue and they all had low sar rating (like moto razr2).

when you're in poor signal area(rural area), phone will increase power level of antenna to get better reception. so it will emit higher radition.
low sar rating phones put lower limit on this so people in those area would get poor reception.
moto smartphone have high sar ratings (1.4~1.5) also rezound have 1.2 while 1.6 is the law allowed.
samsung smartphones have low sar ratings (0.2~0.7) so whoever had issue with signal before, i think they'll have same issue with S3.
