Samsing cloud server

Why do some photos on my Samsung s 7 show a grey screen with !
Then I try to download and it says .....could nt connect to Samsung cloud server and to retry....but just won't work....have several like this.......

Did you enable S-Cloud photo back up and any cleanup routines that might have deleted physical files if backed up to the cloud? The gray/exclamation mark icon shows when the image/file you're trying to open isn't available or the file has been corrupted (especially common if pictures are stored in SD Card), and from the error you're getting, it seems the thumbnail is directing to a cloud location (not an actual file on your phone), but either you aren't logged in to the Samsung account or there are other errors happening.
