Samsung and Apple getting greedy?

Some people don't think the prices are absurd.

"iPhone Princess Plus has a feature that is not much different from other Apple iPhone mobile phone, which makes this into the top 10 most expensive mobile phones in the world. This iPhone is designed by famous designer Austria, Peter Aloisson. Beside the gold, this special iPhone flavour comes with no less than 138 princess cut and 180 brilliant cut diamonds with a weight of 16.50 – 17.75. And according to Peter Aloisson, the diamonds have the best quality, so owning such a device is quite a remarkable thing. It’s price is $ 176.400."

Obviously. Some people think this would have to be the best cell phone available.

But Apple has the luxury of a platform monopoly...

I think both need to be careful. Everyone has a breaking point; it's just a question of when. In this case, it might be so much that a mass of people just won't buy.

I agree with you! Everyone has a breaking point. And some just won't be able to justify spending a significant amount of cash on something they may upgrade from in a year or less.

I agree... but Apple has more rope to hang themselves with.

Even on a 2 year cycle, some people just may say no. Apple users may not necessarily shift platforms, but may hold on to the current phone for a little while longer. For Samsung users, they may choose a different OEM, or do something similar to the Apple scenario, and hold on to the phone a while longer.

Apple has almost always commanded a higher price, i.e. the fabled Apple Tax. I mean, take a look at the Mac Pro, the desktop Mac. The price is outrageous, and the hardware doesn't merit the price tag.

True! A two-year contract or timeframe doesn't necessarily mean they'll pay the big bucks. That's kind of where I'm at with HTC. I really wanted the U11 but I'm not going to shell out $900 CAD for it, before tax. And that's not even close to the price tag of the iPhone 7 Plus - Rogers has it retailing for $1079 off-contract. To me (maybe not others), that's a huge difference.

But yeah, for sure, people may take their business elsewhere. My Honor 8 was paid off in about two months and I find it *really* hard to pay way more money for a flagship next time 'round.

Samsung's already not meeting sales expectations on the S8 line, that's why all the crazy trade in deals and other sales, it's going to be fun watching them try to unload the note 8 at that crazy price.

Apples clientele is already used to paying more for the "Cadillac" of phones, but I think they're even going to find their price ceiling.......... I just think Samsung's going to be hit a lot harder.

I love watching greed tear companies apart.
It makes me smile :-)

Well, carriers are already wheeling and dealing. TMobile is doing their usually BOGO deal promo, but they'll also throw in two 360 cams for free.

Two Note 8s, two 360 cams for $930 + one or two months of service on a new line that you can drop once you get the pre paid card. That's still close to $500 a phone though... Which is crazy.
