I've seen mentions of the Samsung appstore here and other places, but can't find it on my s5. I've found the application in the app manager, but no luck finding a way to launch it. Any clue?

Only way I've found:

From App drawer, touch the three-dot menu in upper right corner, touch GALAXY Essentials. That opens a mini version of "essential" apps. Scroll to the bottom for a more button which takes you to the store

I had to download from the site. I actually found it in pic options.. I scrolled all the way to the right and said download more. It opened my browser and I downloaded it from their site..

Keep in mind.. I had to go to setting and allow downloads from unknown source's. . Since its not coming from the playstore

I'm having the same issue. On my Verizon GS5. I don't have a "Samsung Apps" in my app trap. I'm wanting to download "Surround Shot" which is like Photosphere which is on the native Nexus devices. I'm not finding it out of the Essentials way of getting there and I can't find a "search" option, but I can find it on the regular PC website of their appstore.

On my AT&T Samsung S5 it was preinstalled. There really isn't much (in my opinion) to it.
