 Hi All. I have now lost a Samsung mobile and recently had another stolen 😡 However when I have used SmartSwitch and/or Samsung Cloud to back up my previous data, a lot of it is NOT transferred over?

Am I doing something wrong or do ppl use Android/Mobile Manager software to carry out a full safe back up of all their data.

Any help advice would be appreciated in hope that this situation is not repeated.

What kind of data isn't included? Are you sure the sync was active and the account was properly set up to back up ALL items?

Bear in mind that for back up, your actual app data isn't saved (just basically a list of installed apps to re-install and general phone settings). Secure Folder data needs additional steps to back up and restore (for security reasons). Encrypted messages cannot be backed up (some MMS/groupchats fall into this category). Non-camera folders usually need to be manually selected for back up.

Especially when doing a SmartSwitch transfer it'll tell you which items are not going to be possible to port over, but it may be a little more obscure when just using Samsung Cloud back up.

Hi @SpookDroid Thanks for your comments and reply. I get frustrated when you get told your data is safe and it's easy to back up and restore it.

It doesn't seem to back up contacts, email settings or photos! I realise that it only backs up some date like installed apps etc. It shows that Photos are backed up to OneCloud then when I go to restore it shows a message unable to login to the account so lost everything.

Cheers!

Not sure why Contacts aren't backed up (they should!). Are you sure they're being saved to your Samsung Account? If it's being saved, say, to your Google Account, then yeah, those won't save in your Samsung Backup (they will, however, on your Google one). Photos also don't get backed up with Samsung directly anymore (it's been a couple of years since that was deprecated) and can now only back up directly with OneDrive. You can also use other services (like Google Photos) and use their app to set up back ups. E-mail settings should also be possible to back up, unless the account has specific security measures (for instance, if it's a corporate e-mail, IT may restrict how it can be activated on a new device and may have to be done manually every time).

Using SmartSwitch, however, should allow for transfer of all this (except the latter if IT policies prevent it) as long as you're doing it directly from phone to phone and not through a cloud back up first.

Samsung Cloud used to be a reliable option for backing up photos, notes, and settings, but most of its features have now been integrated into Microsoft OneDrive. If you’re looking for alternatives, Google Drive and Samsung Smart Switch are great options for backups.

Smart Switch, in particular, is handy if you’re switching devices — it can move apps, contacts, messages, and even some settings. For long-term storage, combining Google Drive for documents and photos with Samsung’s own backup tools gives a more complete solution.

Looks like I will have to change the way I back up my media, contacts and email settings for the future! The issues being I could only back up from the cloud as I did not have access to the original mobiles owing to loss/theft :-(

Thanks all.
MarkS

BTW I really do not like OneCloud as a service.

No idea what OneCloud is, but that's not Samsung's (and is not an official partner either, so that may be why that particular service doesn't have access to a lot of Knox-secured stuff).
