Samsung Bloatware

I'm fairly pleased with my Samsung S8 tablet. It's fast and at just over 10 inches, the size is nice.
I really like the facility to limit battery charging to 85%, so hopefully I can avoid the battery failures seen on some other devices I have owned.

Admittedly, I really wanted something with Windows, but absolutely nobody makes a FAST Windows device that's about 10~11" and has a footprint smaller than a sheet of A4 paper. Both Microsoft and HP make slow <11" tablets.

The main thing I don't like is all the Samsung software, which Samsung prevent us from deleting. Such as the awful Samsung calendar app. It seems to have no facility to add attachments to an appointment, so I have to install the google calendar app. Now I get one reminder from each app, as Samsung will not allow me to delete their awful app.

If the Samsung apps were good, there would be no need to prevent the users from deleting them.

Anyway, 6 months later my phone was due for replacement. The Samsung apps were a major factor in my decision to buy a Pixel.

But yeah, I'm like you, I dont like all those Samsung bloatware apps. Every time I purchase a new device, doesnt have to be just Samsung, the first thing I do after setting it up the account is delete/disable all the stock apps I dont want.

I clean out as many apps I can remove and then install all the ones I actually like and use.

The last Pixel phone I owned, I think I remember that there was no bloatware on it. It was the Android OS and nothing else and I loved it. I dont know about today's Pixels, but my last one was really clean. When I moved to Samsung, I rolled my eyes to all those bloatware apps.

I am thinking about maybe Pixel eventually, for this reason. However, Google probably just buries most of their bloat within their Google/Android services, stuff that is likewise not easy to disable/remove or parse out of a Pixel. I think the folks that get really serious about all of this go GrapheneOS, to then also get away from whatever extras/bloat google is also doing.

While you may not be able to delete the apps, you can disable them. Including the Calendar app. That will prevent any notifications. You can also just turn off all notifications from the app. That pretty much does the same thing.

But disabling it will remove the app from the app list as if it's not there.

Probably the next best thing.

I love my Tab S8 as well. It's so nice to watch media on it rather than on my phone. My phone strains my eyes if I look at it for extended periods of time. I have the Pixel 7 Pro, Tab S8 and Watch 5. I bought the S22+ last year at the same time as the Tab. I traded in the phone to Google for the 7 Pro but am still paying for the S22+. I owe about $200 on the 7 Pro and $600 on S22+. I'm wishing I could pay off the 7 Pro or the Tab S8 early but I don't really want to sell the Tablet. Even though I could and make enough to essentially pay off the Tablet and my phone. I may end up looking into it when we get back from Punta Cana in June. I'm looking forward to using it on the flights.

I've even toyed with the idea of going back to an iPhone because the 7 Pro hasn't been all it's cracked up to be. The camera is amazing but I've already had it replaced once because the screen was green. It's been an issue with the 7 Pro and has happened to many people. I just don't want to sell my Galaxy watch 5 either as it won't really work with iOS.

In my opinion bloatware was an issue when we had slow processors and memory, 2 gig of ram and 16 gig of storage. Now a days with fast SOC's, memory, oodles of ram and storage it really doesn't matter at all. Done use it or disable it.

My phone and tablet both have 16gigs of ram and 512g of storage so a little bloatware doesn't bother me at all.

My phones are also always carrier purchased and locked so I can take advantage of their features and support.

If it bothers you then buy what makes you happy.... life is too short!

My problem with Pixel and its software is that it lacks polish. Yes, there is no bloat, but Google devices are really basic. I know that many people love stock Android, but I prefer Samsung's implementation.
