Samsung.com has new 50% buy back guarantee offer for the next 24 months. But you can't combine this offer with the max trade in value or $200 off Unlocked model. So IMO not a good deal if you are planning to upgrade next year since Samsung always has great trade in value and you will definitely get $600-$700 trade in value next year. So just take the other offers instead of this. If you are keeping the phone for two years then may be this is worth considering.

This offer applies to both unlocked and carrier variants. Like for example if you add this then your max trade in offers get reverted to normal rip off trade in offers.

But if you bought the 512 Ultra wouldn't half be 800

Yeah that 50% value changes dynamically based on what model/config you select. For example if you select the S20+ or S20 that number automatically changes. 512 GB is out of stock so can't select it but yes it'll be $800 for the 512 GB.

Does that get applied like a trade in towards new where you save on the tax or is it a separate credit.

I don't know how it works but I'm guessing may be it'll work similar to Samsung upgrade or some of those programs. Don't have much info on how Samsung handles those.

sounds like a great deal, if samsung fully honors it. they have always been a bit dodgy when it comes to their trade in deals. some get the full amount and some don't for whatever reason.

It seems like it makes it somewhat fairer for those that buy the high end models and normally don't see a return on their higher investment with trades.

Might actually be worse with my Note 10+ 256 when I try to trade it towards Note 20. I paid 1100. Trade in towards ultra was worth 700

Yeah personally I don't think this is a good deal if you are planning to upgrade in a year. But since this is for 2 years it may be fine for highest end model like ultra 512 or even 128 GB. Since after 2 years you can get 700 or 800 it's a good deal. But you lose the max trade in value and other offers now when you use that offer.

Well if their is an option to trade vs upgrade you can pick the best deal but we'll have to see how it works.

The question is, will this gaudily-specced phone feel out of date in two years? I mean, 16g of RAM feels like it should last forever...but then again, all these specs mean nothing without software support.

Saying 50% is impressive since in two years you probably couldnt get 50% value on it. You'd have to hope you liked your phone enough to continue with Samsung again in two years. And you hope they don't make the S22 $2000.

Software support is nice but reality is that phones still function long after software support is done. 50% buy back credit for 2 years is great regardless.

50% is great even after 1 year in some cases

true. which is why i'm contemplating buying a pixel 2xl in 2020...because regardless of when software support ends, it's always going to take great photos.

From Verge article

"If you’re buying a $1,400 128GB Galaxy S20 Ultra today, then, the prospect of getting $700 back in 24 months probably sounds appealing. The credit is returned to whichever method you use to pay for the phone, so you wouldn’t even necessarily have to stick with Samsung at that point."

Important to know so your out SOL later... offer only through buying phone from Samsung.com not a available or eligible through carrier and you must opt in to the program a time of checkout. And try to keep your phone in pristine condition for those two years... don’t want to deal with arguing with them if they feel you have a few to many scratches on it. Seen too many posts where they offer x amount for your phone and then push back that it wasn’t in fair condition.

Carrier variants bought from Samsung.com, why will it apply if you don't buy from Samsung.com? Yes you need to opt in to whatever offer you like, one of them is this 50% buyback stuff. When your are buying they clearly present which offer you want. No one should buy carrier variants according to my opinion but that's a different story
