You are correct.. The full price of the phone will show on your account. The amount owed will go down the amount of the credit and your payment each month. If you want to pay off in 24 months you will forfeit 12 months of the credits on a 36 month payment deal. Carriers are banking on most people doing that I think anyway. You would lose $333.33 of the credits, and owe $66.6 0 in payments. There would still be a balance of close to $400 after 24 months owed yet. With AT&T you have to sign a 24 or 36 month payment plan with them for the phone essentially locking you in with them for that period of time. Also that $1000 ends up being an account credit to your phone payments. I could be wrong but I believe if you end up paying it off ahead you have to pay the remaining balance of the phone and lose the remaining account credit.
Don't know about anyone else, but in 2 years if you want to upgrade but you would have to pay $400 on top of the new phone would make me think hard on it. Three years is to long IMO. At least At&T gives you the option of 2 years. Greedy Verizon gives 3 years as only option.
