Samsung (direct from them): Note 8 Pre-Order Thread

Does anybody know if you can trade-in a phone from a different carrier (than the carrier that you currently have)? For example, I trade-in an ATT phone, but purchase a Verizon Note 8 through Samsung.

Will this be an issue? Does Samsung even care?
Doesn't matter at all as long as the phone is not black listed

Very strange. And customer service for Samsung is got to be the worst out there. Can't believe I pre ordered again after note 7 lol

I agree was going to cancel my order and reorder because I forgot to add next day shipping. I thought about the hassle of dealing with Samsung's customer service and decided against it.

According to the fine print on Samsung, the phone "Has Reactivation Lock, Google Factory Reset Protection, or any other anti-theft locking software disabled".

I'm purchasing a phone online to trade-in to Samsung. How do you check for these?

If you are able to factory reset the device, does that mean that none of the above is on the phone and it's in the clear?

Factory reset will not remove Google Factory Reset Protection. The previous owner needs to remove their Google account(s) from their phone before factory reset. If they don't, a complete wipe can't even remove it. I learned the hard way when I forgot to do it on my Google Pixel before selling it and had to receive the phone back to remove the account. It will ask you to put in your Google account when the phone is set up. From now on, I remove all accounts in settings before selling/giving the phones away.

I have a fully paid off unlocked S8+ with T Mobile, and I was thinking of ordering the Note directly from Samsung. However, my phones isn't even listed on the website as being eligible for the $425 discount for former Note 7 owners!! Hopefully, they'll rectify this soon.

That's why I won't use them, even if it means a big discount. It's too risky. Not that they would cheat you but you're taking a risk and not really know how much they are actually giving you. My 7 Edge is in MINT condition but I bet they wouldn't give me $425 for it.... Read it close, it says UP TO $425 and that is at their discretion. I would want confirmation before I sent my phone in and we all know that isn't going to happen.

I think it's because the S8+ wasn't even out yet when the Note 7 failed.

I'd like to know if I'm reading this right - because I had a note 7, I'm eligible to get 425 off by trading in a phone, and from what I'm seeing, an S5 counts (?). I've got my wife's old S5 sitting in a drawer (bought her an S8 outright).
Still paying monthly on the S7e I never wanted. So, if I order through Sammy, and pay $425, then just keep paying off the S7e monthly while using the note 8, probably my best course of action to get an N8.
Anyone suggest a better option? On Vzw, for what it's worth

If it is a IPhone the previous owner also has to remove their Apple ID or it's rendered useless. I bought one on Ebay once and he had not cleared his Apple ID ane he couldn't remember it either so I had to return it to him and get my money back.

I did the trade in. But after thinking about it I may just let them hit me with the full charge for it because I can sell my iPhone 7 plus on swappa.com for 600. So that puts me getting the note 8 for $450. :)

But what are you trading? I heard you won't get that phone back either.

The iPhone 7 plus 128gb red Verizon model so it's unlocked. I don't have to send it in. They will just charge me the full price of the phone. But I'll get more money back by selling it on swappa.com.

If it is in mint condition you might get that. It's not a guarantee and they have to see it first.

Yea, like with the s8 trade in fiasco people were sending in phones that were like nearly new and only got $25.

Does the company doing the trade in have incentives for the more phones one rejects? Like the tech gets a bonus.

ou do not send in your Trade-In Device within 15 days of receiving your new device or if your Trade-In Device is not in good condition or is not otherwise eligible for Trade-In, you agree to pay Samsung the full trade-in value listed above or full trade-in value listed minus $25, respectively. You authorize such charge to be made on the same payment method, and same Samsung Financing offer if applicable, used for this transaction. No device will be returned to you. Click to see the*Terms and Conditions*and*FAQs*of the Samsung Trade-In Program.
