Samsung Epic 4G Lag Fix: RFS to EXT4 for Froyo DK28

This may or may not have been mentioned, but in the instructions for Clockword mod it says that to SELECT/ENTER your option using the volume up and down keys you use the "Power Button" however I believe the "Camera Button" is the select button and the "Power Button" actually takes you back a step in case you make the wrong selection. Thanks for all the help though, truly a great walkthrough.

7. Congratulations! The hard part is over - now all that's left is to flash an EXT4 ROM.

You should have the zip file of the ROM you want to flash already on your SD card from Step 3. Boot into Clockwork v3.0.0.5 by turning off your phone, then holding volume down+camera+power buttons (do NOT use an app to reboot to recovery, see Important Notes below). You can use the volume buttons to move up and down in the menus, and power for select.

It's always a good idea to wipe your phone before flashing a ROM to avoid conflicts. To perform a wipe, while in the Clockwork main menu go to: wipe data/factory reset>yes.

Now to flash your ROM. Go to: install zip from sdcard>choose zip from sdcard>(navigate to the ROM zip on your SD card)>(select it using the power button)>yes. Your ROM will now be flashed.

Maybe it is just different for me

Then find a copy of Windows XP, install it using Bootcamp. That way you can troubleshoot at your leisure.

I finally got it! I had to use a new windows 7 computer. The other PC's i was using was XP and vista with no luck. Now i'm installing midNIGHT rom as we speak!

Keep backuping up and restoring

I'm in CW 3.0.0.5 and I got the errors "e:failed to mount" then is starts doing a backup, then restore, then backup again, seems to be looping. I'm guessing this is bad??

A couple possibilities: you didn't follow the instructions on how to boot into Clockwork, or you have a SD card that needs to be formatted.

Please clarify my doubt. After rooting with clockworkmod 3, can i use official DK28 instead of custom ROM ?

Froyo DK28 is not official software, and no you must use a ROM that supports EXT4 - which stock DK28 does not.

Success!!!! This is great! I have been playing around with truly epic rebirth and its awesome! Great work!

Am I stuck with CWM 3.0.0.5

Last month I installed an EXT4 Rom, and quickly removed it. I used CWM 3 to get the EXT4. Fast forward to today, and I am running stock DK28 (rooted), and I want to install the Galaxy Tab Email app. Every time I death grip the phone CWM 3 automatically converts the phone to EXT4 which kills the entire install (thank god for backups). I am stuck. I need to install CWM 2.x.x.x or stop the EXT4 conversion. I tried the run.bat for CWM 2, and got nothing.

Help please.

Have you tried this?

OneClickRoot v2.5.5 (This will root and install CWM v2.x.x.x)

This is the method I used and many others before the conversion over to EXT4 and CWM3

From post #1:
Is there any way to go back to my original setup after I do this?
Yes, you can flash this zip in ClockworkMod3. It will revert your filesystem to RFS as well as give you ClockworkMod2 with a prerooted, odexed system with some additional minor mods. You can alternatively use Odin to return to a completely stock ROM.

Hey i downloaded this and when i got to check out the clockwork it shows clockworkmod recovery v 2.5.1.0. I followed every step how do i get version 3?

Which did you use? OneClickRootCWM3.zip or did you use the one I posted above? OneClickRoot v2.5.5 ?

For EXT 4/CWM3 setup you need to download and use the OneClickRootCWM3.zip on the first post from this thread.

What version of Quantum are you using? That link refers to v2.1.0, and I believe Quantum is up to v2.7.0.

I quick fix for this would be downloading the Miren Browser from the Market. I use it for all my downloads - it even downloads from sites that the stock browser won't.

If I were you I would open Google Maps and get a GPS lock (to minimize potential GPS problems in Froyo), use Odin to flash Froyo, and then run the EXT4 .bat file again to get root/Clockwork/EXT4. This will ensure a nice, easy, clean install.

I'm guessing your trying to use Odin to restore to Froyo?

First do you have your Samsung drivers downloaded/installed?

Boot into download mode. Then before plugging in your phone via USB, open Odin. Then once Odin is opened connect your phone via cable. The ID:COM port on Odin should have something show up in it/light up.

If Odin is not showing anything in the ID:COM port when you plug in your phone then your not getting a connection.

Then you need to try different USB ports/cables/computer until you find a method that is getting Odin to recognize your phone.

Could you give me a little more history on what you were doing prior to using Odin and why you were going to use Odin?

Can you get it back to download mode? (Android guy shoveling) (holding 1 down on keypad + power)

Just trying to figure out what may have happened.

im gunna have to think back lol but

i ran the ext4
update.zip froyo
clockworked'd the ext4nightmare rom

then realized i had no gps lock. soo...
i flashed back to stock elciar, and odin'd the dk28 modem.
