Samsung Galaxy A71: Volume problem 👎

Using a Galaxy A71.

Volume has started going down at random. Even if I'm not touching/moving it. Is this fixable, or do I need a new phone. Pretty frustrating.

First, see if the problem persists in Safe Mode: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062983

If it does, then it's possible the Vol Down button is getting stuck, or is faulty. Try cleaning it by swabbing around it with rubbing alcohol.

From what I read, if that's the case, then some other app could be causing the problem. How would I identify the app causing this problem?

That can be tricky. Sometimes you have to uninstall apps one by one until the problem goes away. You could start with the most recently installed (or updated) apps.

Or, just format the phone.
Or, get a new one.

The main benefit of Safe Mode is to narrow down an issue to either something to do with an app that was installed vs something with the system or hardware. If the problem goes away in Safe Mode, at least you know it's not a problem with the system or hardware.

Unfortunately, I can't think of any easier option. Sometimes you just have to do trial and error.

Dunno. I don't listen to music when my phones in Safe Mode, but when I listen to music, the volume keeps going down. Is there some dic*head with his/her finger on the volume control?

Does the volume ever go down when you're watching videos, like on YouTube, or while playing games? Or is it only when listening to music?

Do you have anything connected that might be able to control the volume, like wired or Bluetooth headphones?

I've only ever noticed it when listening to music. Wired headphones.
No Bluetooth.
Online/offline: both, problem persists.
It's not constant, but occasional.
I thought volume buttons, maybe, so sat down, stopped moving - the problem persisted, occasionally.
App causing the problem?
If so, how do I identify which app?

Ok, does it only happen when using wired headphones? Most wired headphones have remote controls including volume, and if there's something wonky about the contacts on the plug, that can sometimes cause unintended control commands (either volume up/down or pause/play). This can also happen if the headphones are specifically "Made for iPhone" (look at the box to see if it says that), because the headphone jack on iPhones is configured slightly differently from Android devices.

The "Soundcore by Anker Life Q35 Multi Mode Active Noise Cancelling Headphones, Bluetooth Headphones with LDAC for Hi Res Wireless Audio, 40H Playtime, Comfortable Fit, Clear Calls (Black)"... bluetooth headphones are currently on an amazon "Lightening Deal" that ends in 49 minutes!

They used to sell for $135ish; then typ $99 since January.

I have a pair, and for the money, they are great!

Before you buy another pair, try cleaning out the headphone jack, in case some bit of debris in there is causing some false contacts. Use a can of compressed air to blow it out, and a dry toothpick to root around.
