Samsung Galaxy Buds review: Exceptional everyday earbuds.

I'm pretty happy with my Jabra 65t ones, but I do want to try these. The Jabra match the battery life (6 hours, proven a few times) and hold more charges in the case, but they do not have wireless charging. So we'll see. Unfortunately not a fan of the white haha

Have you seen the yellow ones? They're crazy bright.

I liked those...for like 10 minutes. If they were red, though... Ugh. Instant love haha

Thanks for sharing the article! I will post my thoughts next week! they ship March 18th! :) i too am excited.

The buds have been the biggest surprise of my experience! I absolutely love them!

(I have the Bose Soundsport Free and the Bose Quiet Comfort 35, they blow the Soundsport away!)

Haha, dang I was hoping not to hear that. I just got the Bose Soundsport free as a gift from the wife, but got the Galaxy Buds since the $130 gift certificate wasn't available. The Bose headphones sound great, so I can't imagine how awesome the Galaxy Buds are gonna be.

The Bose are dope, but the Samsung's seal your ears, I feel this is probably the main difference in sound quality.

I got my ear buds a last Tuesday along with my S10+ but had never tried them out until a few minutes ago. I have to say I'm extremely disappointed. I suspect that my comparison isn't really fair. My current ear buds are a pair of wired Shure 535's that I bought some time ago for about $535, but those are my comparison unit.

I like the idea of bluetooth ear buds but I'm too accustomed to the extreme quality of the Shures and I think I'm going to start looking for some bt buds that will be in the same ballpark as what I have now but without the wires.

It's a nice gift to get for free and they have some nice perks with their "built for Samsung" settings on the phone but they're not going to work for me.

I accidentally ended up writing a review on the Galaxy Buds a few minutes ago in the other thread. Here it is:

While I was at work, I tested these against my Bose Soundsport Free wireless headphones, and the AKG headphones that came in the box. Long story short:

Bose Soundsport > AKG from box > Galaxy Buds

I'm not saying the Galaxy Buds are bad, per se. To be fair I'm comparing them against headphones that are very good. The problem, I think, is that the dynamic range just isn't all there. If I use bass boost, I lose the higher tones. If I use dynamic, I'm cutting out sound on both ends of the spectrum. It seems like there's a tradeoff, whereas with my Bose headphones (and to a lesser extent the ones from the box) I'm getting the full range of sounds regardless. I should add that the AKG NC60 Wireless headphones that came as a gift with the S9+ are even better than the Bose headphones, because the sound quality is equal, and you get noise cancelling.

I tried going for my afternoon treadmill run with the Galaxy Buds, and the experience was pretty good because they are small and don't loosen the way my Bose headphones do (those things are huge by comparison). My only concern in terms of running is that if I go outdoors with just my Galaxy Watch, I'll have to putz around with the watch to change the volume. Or do some weird setup where the left earbud decrements the volume and the right one increments it. Aw well, minor inconvenience at best.

My impression after a few hours of use with these is that while I wouldn't pay $130 for them, they are very, very nice as a freebie gift. Definitely more convenient than any of the other headphones I have and I would definitely use them at work or when traveling.

Speaking of the Galaxy Buds and I really hope I don't start a war here, because that's not my intention. But here it goes lol...

Some guy at work told me that Bluetooth earbuds (I'm assuming headphones too) are being linked to brain tumors. He said something to the effect that scientists have researched this.

Without starting a flame war, is there any truth to this to your knowledge?

Thank you!

There seems to be a difference of opinion. Most of the articles written by lay people (with no medical or scientific education) seem to favor the bad effects of bluetooth. Most articles that I've read written by medical or electronic specialists feel that the amount of radiation emitted by bluetooth is not even close to be sufficient enough to be harmful.

That is a generalization and you can take it however you want, but it does represent a fair amount of reading and it is my take on what I've read. As in most things YMMV.

OK, thanks for the info! With that being said, what is your personal take on it?

Ok, you can take this for what it's worth, and we all know what is said about free stuff.

I have a higher level ham radio license so I do have a bit of knowledge if radio frequencies. I have been involved in various aspects of the tech industry including (many decades ago) testing the frequencies and strength of radio signals given off by the read/write heads of flying heads on the old disk drives (in order to determine how those frequencies and resonant frequencies affected the ability of the heads to read and write data on the drives). Later I owned my own tech company for twenty years until I sold it and retired so I've had my head buried in tech at various levels for a long long time.

With that background I personally believe that bluetooth, used in moderation, poses no danger to most people. If you're one of those people that I've seen with a bluetooth seemingly buried permanently in their ear then you probably have bigger issues than the bluetooth itself. Up to now I've used my wired buds, but I think I will be looking for some high quality bluetooth ear buds for myself.

Well I'm a doctor...of philosophy...in astrophysics. Couldn't tell you a thing about how the human body works. What I can tell you is that Bluetooth operates in the gigahertz band, which is orders of magnitude below the energy level of ionizing radiation, i.e. the level of energy needed to knock atomic electrons out of their orbitals and cause tissue damage of any kind. Basically the only thing that non-ionizing radiation can do to you is heat up your tissue (this is what a microwave oven does), and that is dependent on the amplitude of the radiation, not the frequency. Bluetooth headphones ain't gonna cook your brain or anything.

No offense to your friend from work, but this sounds like random pseudoscience. Again, I don't know anything about medicine, so if there's published research in a medical journal I'd like to see it. Barring anything like that, I'll say this: your body is constantly bombarded by radio waves from radio stations as well as microwave radiation from cell phones from others. I'm not sure your personal devices are adding appreciably to this.
