Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 - Pre ordering?

I'm thinking of cancelling because I can't see giving up the Note and S Pen. Love trying new tech but deep down I know I won't keep it over the N20U.

The Note 20U is an everyday phone that you can use practically everywhere. It has an IP rating to support this. The Fold is not an everyday device that can be used everywhere. Not yet, not really...not in this iteration. You need to have an everyday phone to use alongside the Fold 2. If you already have that go ahead and get the Fold 2. If not, I think the Note would be the better choice.

Can’t really agree here, where are people going where IP rating matters? Not like most people go to the pool or the beach on a regular basics not for most people.

I’ve pre ordered it to be my daily device and i can’t see it being an issue...don’t think most people buying a 2k device will have other phones.

Dust. Dust is everywhere outside. Rain. So I imagine going biking or hiking day in, day out, month in, month out. I am not sure the Fold will stay flawless in such conditions. I realize not everyone cares about keeping a phone flawless but I'm flawed like that. We shall see, mine should arrive on or before the 18th and, inevitably, I will want to take it with me on an adventure instead of the Notes or S20U.

I would think due to the size when folded it will help in a pocket. Suppose if dust is a big issue a sleeve can always be used for certain situations.

I hope so because I'm confident its a device I'm going to want to use a lot. I ordered the black and I am beginning to wish I ordered the Bronze. ...might change that, who knows.

I agree. IP rating certainly helps to make phones life proof. After all, accidents do happen. But it’s not like we didn’t enjoy our devices prior to the IP standards.

I suspect that the Fold2 could probably achieve an IP11 rating at a minimum but at that level, is it really even worth it for Samsung to pay for the certification?

And just as a general FYI to any N20 owners, this is straight from Samsung’s site. Just something to keep in mind if something happens.

My S20U will be the sacrificial lamb for any environments that are more dirty/wet but I can't imagine taking any of my phones into the pool for underwater shots but I know some have with absolutely no worries or damage. I'll take the Fold 2 to work and what not.

According to people that use the 1st gen as their daily it's not nearly as fragile as most people think.

I just came back from business trip in Delaware setting up facility to go live next week... floor tiles were being laid down, walls built, ceiling tiles being put up all around me while I was stuck in an IT closet. Even after the walls were done and most of the ceiling tiles up and they swept most of the dust away, I couldn't walk the floor without leaving the area without a layer of drywall dust on the hair on my forearms (and being an asian guy, i dont have hair on my arms!!) or white dust on my phone... my brand new N20U! Was bothering me while working lol.

I'm certain there is no way a Fold could survive in that floor. No doubt dust would have found it's way into every crevice of that phone.

I admit looks like a very fun phone to have as a novelty if you have the money to blow or have a spare. But for some, it's a no go until it gets an IP rating.

Dang that sounds rough LOL. The Fold 2 would get destroyed.

The hinge makes meeting an IP68 standard difficult. I don't say impossible because anything is possible when you throw money at a solution, but not viable due to what the market will tolerate. That said, I'm out until they prove to me that the second Gen with folding glass is durable and they thin out the form factor. IP68 would be icing on the cake.

I feel like because Samsung's Galaxy Note became popular and accepted, it forced companies to make their phones bigger.

If phones remained around 4-5", then Foldables would make more sense today.

I hate that it's also too fragile to pay over $2k.

I get the comparison but I'm sure the extra screen real estate is nice. For my situation, 99% of the time it would be just be easier to carry a tablet as a secondary device. For most situations when I'm walking around I don't need a tablet.

Let them try, they are bored and trying to invent new form factors for making money and we are bored as well so new form factors and toys to play

Obviously it's for very minority set of users and we will have to wait and see what the future holds.

So is Verizon and that’s for ONE color combination. If you choose any other you’ll be waiting an extra 2.5 weeks
