Samsung Galaxy J1 - Outrageously high system memory

The system memory figure apears to be abnormally high. I noticed this when I was getting notifications of running out of storage space after just buying the phone!

Any fixes?

Welcome to Android Central! That's normal. The OS typically takes up around 3-4 GB on a phone, depending on how much other bloatware the phone also comes with. It's common for an 8 GB phone to have only about 3 GB of storage available to the user. It is standard in the industry to advertise the total storage the phone comes with, not how much is available to the user (even with iPhones).

Ah I see so it's basically just something I have to live with, lol. Thanks for the reply.

Yep, sorry. 8 GB phones are pretty limited -- given the increasing size of many popular apps and games these days, the bare minimum storage on a phone should be 16 GB (which usually gives the user about 11-12 GB of space).

I didn't even realize the storage was so low until after I had already bought the phone.

I'll probably just get a new one and swap the sim to it.
