Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - SD card trouble

I can no longer add or delete anything to my sd card using es file explorer or the stock file explorer. It appears to work then it goes back to what it was. However I can do both using the stock gallery app. Whats up with that?

Say I want to delete a video. I do so and all goes well. It says its gone and it no longer shows. I close the app and open it again and there it is. Same on the add a video. It appears to be added. Shows on the list (wont play though). Close es and open it again and its not there. Now gallery seems to be following this trend.
