Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - Does anyone else think the camera sucks?

Has no one found a fix for this issue? As previously posted, this camera is absolutely useless trying to take pictures of moving subjects. Although I will say it is really good in bright light.
But sheesh, even my Nexus 4 took better (aka not blurry) photos in dim lighting. I would prefer a grainy photo with recognizable subjects than a blurry picture.

It's mostly a hardware issue so there is no fix.You will have to wait for the next model for better performance in low light.You might get slightly better results with another camera app but there is no way you will get around the issue with picture blur on moving subjects in less than perfect lighting.

The iPhone 5S got the balance right by keeping the pixel count at 8MP and increasing the size of the sensor.The Note 3 did not get an increase in sensor size but got an increase in the number of pixels which makes the individual pixels much tinier than the 8MP Note 2.You get an increase in resolution at the cost of low light performance.We will have to live with it.

In this endless thread, there seems to be no comparison between N2 and N3 - only N1 and N3.

I love my N3, however its low light performance is substantially inferior to what my N2 used to be able to do.

The day shots are excellent, so its only a question of a firmware update, whenever one will happen to come...

My advice for people complaining about phone cameras? Buy an actual camera!! Phone cameras are not meant for SUPERIOR photography..

Strangely enough I have a friend with a Galaxy s4 and today we were comparing cameras today. Even the viewfinder on the note 3 is much, much darker even in a daylight indoor setting. There's definitely something wrong with either the sensor or the software in the note 3. This is a fantastic phone but easily the worst camera since my iPhone 4

The N3 camera defenders have all dried up since thanking each other's posts and polishing each others posteriors. I think by now, two months after release, We all know we've been duped by Samsung in thinking this phones camera was an upgrade.

The shutter is just too slow. My Nexus 4 took better photos in indoor lighting albeit grainy. But I would rather have a grainy photo than a blurry one.

I have used all the different settings on my phone and I have had no complaints. I used auto on the pictures I have on the pictures thread. I have used it in low light and gotten some good shots. I really think that it is a hardware problem which others refuse to accept and hold onto their Gnote3's and just complain. If it was the software there would of surely been an update by know. The only ones that gotten software updates were those overseas and Canada none here. I had this phone since day one and I have had two complaints which one was my fault. It was a app I installed that was killing my battery in 5 hours. I uninstalled the app and I am getting a day of battery use. The other was after the last update it messed up my WiFi connection. I hade to reset my modem and Router to fix the problems. That includes checking the forums and email all day with some games. I honestly have no complaints. This is a great phone. Some of the pictures and videos I have taken last week at my churches Christmas Program is about to be posted on the church Web site I took the pictures while my daughter was dancing. Try returning your GNote3 or try Awesome camera my friend that has the Nexus 5 says that it helped his camera a lot.

So funny,, no matter how many great pictures are posted still have the few people who need to bash the camera,, lol,, you are comical. Very good phone camera. I especially get a kick out of the people who take pictures In the dark and say "see,, low light pics are horrible". How about this,, learn how to use the camera. Lol. MERRY CHRISTMAS PEOPLE. I don't think the N3 camera sucks.In fact,I am happy with the performance considering it's a smartphone but the truth remains some of the competition have moved ahead in low light performance.Samsung knows this otherwise otherwise they would not be addressing this weakness in their next generation smartphones with Isocell.

The camera of a smartphone often is the differentiator and manufacturers knows this.Compact cameras have dropped in sales over the years and more and more people now rely solely on their smartphones to capture most of their photos.Low light performance is the differentiator as most smartphones these days take great photos in daylight.

Anadtech has even said the N3 lacks performance in low light compared to the competition.

"The Note 3 looks good outside and obviously reminds me exactly of the Galaxy S 4 when it comes to imaging performance. I never really had issues with SGS4 outside or in well lit scenarios, the Note 3 ends up being just about the same. I can’t say there’s really any surprises when it comes to still images out of the device, although the Note 3 absolutely struggles with white balance in the lightbox for some reason, which is odd considering Galaxy S 4 definitely didn’t have similar problems. Anyhow if you liked SGS4 imaging performance, Note 3 is definitely the same, it doesn’t really change the formula in low light however against the competition that now has OIS and bigger pixels, but I won’t belabor that point again."

It has very little to do with the camera and everything to do with the software that is processing the picture taken. Iphone has always been at the top of the pile because of the processing of the jpeg that goes on behind the scene. I hope people aren't taking pictures with their phones in hopes of printing out 8x10's. Can it be done, I am sure it can, but just because something can be done doesn't mean you should do it. Pictures I take with my camera end up on Facebook or MMS messages. Pictures I want to print out and hang are taken with my G5

I went to an event today, with my kids.

Done it last year, taking photos and videos with a Note 2.

This year, I have the Note 3, so now I can do an apples to apples comparison, since it was exactly the same event, with exactly the same lighting conditions - the Note 3 is delivering lower low light quality than the Note 2 did...

I still firmly believe, that this is a software issue, which will get addressed eventually.

Let the bashing begin.

I just brought home my brand spanking new Note 3 home today. I am very happy with the camera. I was a little concerned after reading through some of the posts on this thread. However, after taking some pictures of my kids tonight at a restaurant in a low light situation and comparing those shots to my iPhone 5 (work phone), I came away impressed. With smart stabilization on,the N3 takes fairly bright photos in low light.I was also initially happy with the low light performance.They look quite sharp as well until you crop in a little bit and you will notice all details are lost.SS also requires a very still camera and subject.It works by taking a a few shots and averaging them together.Not exactly good for quick shots or moving subjects.Other phones don't have this problem.

Saying trolls are going to hate is going a little extreme as most reviewers who have tested the N3 against other smartphones have said the same thing.Anyway,the most important thing is that you are happy with the results.Most smartphones don't do well in lowlight anyway so it's not like we are missing out a lot.

Better software would help of course but it's mainly the hardware limitation.The sensor size and individual pixel size are simply too small.You can only do so much with software and don't hold your breath.I had the N1 which had awful black crush and hoped software updates would fix it but never happened.
